If your all-time favorite player from your favorite team left, would you follow the player or stay with the team?

Stay with the team and root for the player except for when he is playing your team.

Stay with the team. I didn't care about Arizona when Emmitt when to play for them.

Team. If I had a child play for another team, I would root for my child, but still be a Cowboys Fan. Unless they were playing in the Super Bowl, then I'd be like Archie Manning (I think), and want my child to win. Even if it was against the ... Steeler (UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!)

This is an absolute truth which I learned through my own experience. I once thought that I was a true Philadelphia 76ers fan. Losses in the in NBA finals to the Portland Trailblazers and the Los Angeles Lakers (twice), plus a bitter defeat at the hands of the Larry Bird Boston Celtics after being up 3-1 in the Eastern Conference finals, did not waver my devotion to the Sixers.

It was only after Charles Barkley was basically forced out of Philly when I discovered my love of the team wasn't true love. On that day, I ceased being a 76er fan and because a Barkley fan only.

I'm very appreciative for having lived through that experience though. It taught me what essentially defines a true fan: "Franchise First|Nothing Else Matters".

Go Cowboys. :starspin

I root for the team, no question.

If DeMarcus Ware signed a FA deal with the Commanders I wish nothing but failure upon him.

QFT! I went thru the same thing DE! I was a Philly fan (Barkley & Dr J are my two fave players) up until CB34 left for Phoenix...then I became a Suns' fan because of the way I felt he was treated unfairly by team mgmt! I'd always considered the Suns my "West coast team" ever since I went to my 1st NBA game and I watched Tom Chambers & KJ torch the Bullets so it was just dumb luck that Barkley ended up going to PHX and taking my fanaticism w/ him! It broke my heart when he went to HOU, the team who kept breaking the Suns' hearts after MJ decided to let some other teams win a couple of rings while he played baseball, but I was a die-hard PHX fan by then and still am to this day!

I learned my lesson that you root for the team not the players after watching Barkley leave for a hated rival...

Why would anyone wish failure on any true blue Cowboys' player? What could Ware do to deserve that kind of diss? "Leaving for greener pastures"? In this era of the NFL/ That's kinda harsh, but to each their own.

Good for you finding another NBA team to root for. I'll never root for another NBA team. For me, it's the Sixers or no one.

Players will come and go but the Team will still be here and I will continue to put the team over any individual players

I am a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan.....only three things can possibly change that.

1. If the Cowboys fold and no longer exist....I will have to find a new favorite team....I don't see this happening unless the NFL folds.

2. If San Antonio were ever to get an NFL team, I believe I would eventually be a San Antonio fan and the Cowboys would move to my second favorite team. However, I don't see this happening anytime soon either.

3. If I have a son who plays or coaches for another team, that team would instantly become my favorite team. My kid comes first. Dallas would be my second favorite team.

Emmitt Smith is my all-time favorite Cowboy. I didn't drop the Cowboys to root for the Cards. No I rooted for the Cowboys and I rooted for Emmitt. I even rooted for Emmitt against Dallas, but I wanted Dallas to win.

I do root for other teams because of individual players....Indy (Peyton Manning), Tennessee (Vince Young), KC (Derrick Thomas, Priest Holmes), Seattle (Steve Largent), Cleveland (Bernie Kosar, Eric Metcalf)....but none of them are ever even near the level of the Cowboys.

Couldn't agree more. You think Eagles fans are rooting for McNabb except when he plays their team? Hell no! They want him to lose every game and take a beating in the process.

When Emmitt left to go to the Cardinals, I honestly didn't really care about what he did there. I can't say I wished him harm, but I didn't root for him. There's talk that when Aikman left the Cowboys, he almost came back as an Eagle. If that happened, I would have torched every bit of Aikman stuff I own. And Troy is my favorite all-time Cowboy.

Maybe, its a football thing for me though. Football is the only sport where I never root for another team. Its just the Cowboys. If there's two other teams playing and the outcome doesn't effect the Cowboys, I just wanna see a good game.

I'm a Yankees and Knicks fan also. In baseball, if they're not playing the Yankees, I root for the A's or the Dodgers. In basketball, if they're not playing the Knicks, I root for the Magic (Howard), the Mavs (Dirk, Cuban), the Suns (Nash), or the Blazers (Roy).

I would stay with the Dallas Cowboys no matter what. No player is above my team.

Personally, I found it pathetic when a bunch of Packer fans jumped ship to become Viking fans when Favre left. I live in Wisconsin and there are a lot of people that are temporary Viking fans and say that when Favre retires officially, they will become Packer fans again.

I love Romo but if he left for another NFC team, I would root against him. If he went to the AFC, I would root for him except when he played the Cowboys.

you surely can't just change the team you support? personally i grew up supporting my team. my dad supported them as a boy as did his dad and hopefully one day i'll pass it on to my son. i've supported them since before i was able to kick a ball about the garden. i've been through the joy of winning trophies and the gut-wrenching agony of losing a league season in injury time of the last game of the season. i've seen more players come and go than i care to remember and have great memories of travelling this country and others with friends supporting the team i've loved as long as i can remember. i have an emotional investment in the club, i have opinions on players who retired before i was born. i could list the eleven players who won the european cup even though it was 15 years before i was born and i know songs about guys who played before the second world war. i've travelled through to motherwell at lunchtime to sit in a freezing fog hardly able to see the far end of the field, i've sat in snow, driving rain and baking sunshine watching my team and spent money that i could and probably should have spent on other things going to support them. i've got up at 5 in the morning to get up to aberdeen in time for a lunchtime kick-off and slept in the streets in barcelona because i didn't have enough money to get my flights and accomodation for a big game.
maybe i take it a bit far at times but my team are a massive part of my life so no i can't see me turning my back on that because one particular player leaves.

Cowboys forever. Players come and go, the team endures (unless a jerk owner moves it)

Maybe it's easier for me since Staubach and Lilly were always Cowboys. One poster mentioned Emmit, and I can add Dorsett's brief stint with the Broncos, and in both cases I didn't care a flip about how they did when they left. When Emmit played against Dallas in 2003 I vigorously rooted against him and for my Boys. He ran for negative 1 yard? Too bad it wasn't minus 100.
