Players express concern over Chris Henry findings
Posted by Michael David Smith on June 28, 2010 5:07 PM ET
The news that researchers found evidence of football-related trauma to the late Chris Henry's brain has caused some NFL players to express concern about what the findings could mean to their own health.

Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, who was a teammate of Henry's for four years, said it worried him to hear that Henry's brain showed signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

"It's kind of fearful," Whitworth told Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It's shocking that a guy you played with and didn't really play with that long could be diagnosed."

Whitworth said he expects the league to take increased precautions to protect players from brain injuries.

"I think you will see a little more of the in depth presentations during training camp," Whitworth said. "I know during OTAs they were alarmed if anyone collided. There's some significant things out there."

Sean Morey of the Seahawks, the co-chair of the players' union's brain-injury committee, also said he's concerned about the news regarding Henry.

"It's very emotional to hear -- it rattles me," Morey told the New York Times. "The fact that this has been found that guys played against last year, an active player, I think it's sobering. You have to ask yourself how many are playing the game today that have this and don't even know about it."
