NFL Sunday Ticket coming to PS3

While the games press is focused squarely on Europe, SCEA took some time to announce a megaton for Americans. Sony has partnered with DirecTV to bring its NFL Sunday Ticket subscription service to the PS3. Best of all, the service will be available even for those that don't currently have access to DirecTV. That means PS3 owners will be able to watch every "out-of-market" Sunday game.

The service will be a console-exclusive on the PS3, at least for this season. "We don't have any plans this season to bring [NFL Sunday Ticket] to another game console," DirecTV's Robert Mercer told Shacknews. "We just want to work with a single partner this time around to give everyone a great experience."

NFL Sunday Ticket offers up to 14 NFL games every Sunday, with full HD support for every game. In addition, the subscription also offers access to DirecTV's Red Zone channel, which recounts "the final yards of every scoring drive on one dedicated channel."

Existing DirecTV customers will be able to access the service on their PS3 for $50--the cost of the Sunday Ticket "To Go" program--and "use the PS3 as an additional receiver for your home." If you don't have access to DirecTV, you'll be able to subscribe to one season of the Sunday Ticket for $339.95. (That is close to the cost of adding the service to an existing DirecTV account: $335.)

"We know that PlayStation fans are huge sports enthusiasts, so adding NFL Sunday Ticket is the perfect complement to the PS3’s rapidly growing lineup of sports entertainment, including MLB.TV and NHL GameCenter," Philip Rosenberg, Senior Vice President of Business Development said on the PlayStation.Blog. "I hope you’re as excited for the football season as we are."

!!!!!!! THIS IS HUGE NEWS FOR ME !!!!!!!

Definitely will be signing up for this...is it for this season??

I believe so...It works for me also because direct tv told me that they cannot get a HD signal at my home. I wasn't home when they came out, but they told my wife that the trees at the end of the street were blocking them. He came out on one of the rainy, foggiest days...I think he just didnt feel like hooking it up, so I cancelled the service the next day.

Man I'm really going to be thinking about whether I should do this or not. I need to check and see how many games I think I'm going to miss. Does anyone know about the reliability of direct tv's to-go streaming quality? Does it cut out of anything like that?

How many nationally televised games do the Cowboys have this year?

The price is a bit out of control, considering you won't be able to dvr it or anything to watch later or in case you aren't around when the games air yet it costs the full price of the normal service.

I'm not sure, I also try to take into consideration which afternoon games I will get. Living in Ohio it is hit or miss because you never know who they are going to play.

Yeah that is a little out of whack.

true. Most PS3s have enough memory, though, to where i think they could give it the ability to record games

A lot of these articles are posting wrong information about the $50 charge. It's for existing Sunday Ticket subscribers, not Directv subscribers. This is basically an extension of ST To Go (which is why there is NO CHARGE if you already get STTG).

I wonder if I know anyone willing to pay me to add it to my account.

I'm going to pay my dad to add it, most likely.

I swear I can remember when Sunday ticket first came out paying between 100-150 for the year for it. Alot less than the cost of going to a sports bar to watch the game per week. Now not so much. Couple that with most Cowboy games are on national TV and you can always get an illegal feed online, they are really pricing themselves out of the market.

Ok, ? on the ST to go plan.
I cancelled my ST at home. As I am out of state working.
So if I sign up for ST again, pay the $339 or whatever price I can get it for. Then buy a PS3, and get the $50 add on package to use the PS3. Can I hook the PS3 up to the TV in my hotel room. And see all the games?

The TV in the room is just a basis tv, no audio / video outputs. Just the cable input coming from the wall.

If I have to, I would go buy a cheap flat screen.

I was planning on going to a sports bar for the cowboys games. But what I would pay for drinks and food will cost more than doing it this way. :laugh2:
And I would like the option of watching other games also, not just whatever local games I would be stuck with.

So is this a doable thing?

It's not likely unless the internet connection is wired and has enough bandwidth, but nearly all the hotels you'll visit opt for wireless and it's usually never enough to get a decent video feed, much less one in HD.

If you are worried about the cost of the service try calling DirecTV to see if they will lower the price. I was able to get 50% off plus they took $40 off my regular bill for 6 months.

Doubtful they'll give people breaks with this. I suppose it's worth a shot.......hell, I might give a go.

This is basically just the stand alone computer access ported to the PS3.

You could have done this without the PS3 and just watched on the computer.

I don't see them being willing to budge on this particular package because they aren't making any other money off of you. Be nice if they were willing to knock the price off, I might consider the computer package.

They need to make this work with NFL Preseason Live and NFL Game Rewind. (I have both)
