I am not sure how many here play poker but I have been playing for a few years and had a dream poker sequence last week at Hard Rock in Tampa. I had been playing for a couple of hours and just catching terrible cards. 2-7, 3-8, 4-9 and I was just folding, folding, folding and getting blinded away. And then finally I hit an absolute dream hand.

I am playing 2-5 No Limit Holdem with about $450 in front of me and have a 6-7 of hearts and I am in the little blind. I already have $2 in the pot and it comes back around to me with no raise and I call the other $3. The big blind raised it up to $30 and there are several callers before I decide there is too much money in the pot and I call the extra $25.

The flop comes 5H, 5D, 8H and I have an open end straight flush draw. I check, and the big blind raiser bets $60 and there are two other callers in the hand before it gets back to me and I call the $60. I thought about raising here but the board being paired with 5s slowed me down because I am gambling for the perfect card and any other card I lose to a higher flush or a full house.

The turn is my gin card, 9H and I have an unbeatable straight flush to the 9. I check again hoping everyone has a piece of the board. The big blind checks and the two other callers in the hand check. Damn it, I thought.

The river is a nothing card so I bet $120 on the river. The big blind who has about $1000 in chips in front of her goes all in, and a second person behind her takes forever to call but eventually goes all in with about $300. The 3rd person folds and I am last to act. I was so excited for the hand that I just flipped my cards over in front of me without saying call and said I hope someone has pocket fives for a bad beat winner. The dealer immediately asks me if I am calling with my cards exposed. I said "hell yea" while everyone threw their hand away. I ended up winning over $1200 in the hand plus another $500 for having the high hand of the hour.

After all the years, that was my first straight flush. I hit a royal flush playing stud many years ago but did not win much money in the hand. It is sweet feeling watching people go all in knowing that you have a hand that cant be beaten. Now the Poker Gods will probably punish me the next few times I play by giving me monster hands to only lose them on the river. I love that game...

Nice, congrats!

I used to be absolutely obsessed with the game. Still love to watch and play when I can but I live in Texas and cant play Texas Hold'em in a poker room or casino here, infuriates me. Gotta love the nanny state, what a joke

Time to take advantage of your rush and play a big tourney for an even bigger score!

I play a lot, live and online. You got lucky with the flipping of the cards, some places and players would throw a fit. It is too bad ya didn't have the 1K to match her all-in :(

Since the betting was done, flipping the cards over w/o calling is legal, but is also called "fishing", and if you do it a lot many casinos will kick you out. Make it a habit to state what you are doing to save possible issues.

NH, OP!!!!!!!

Yea, basically what I meant. Technically, the betting wasn't over because two people ahead of him had more cash and ya need to call the bet. It is legal, but like I said, some players will flip out and berate ya for doing that, especially taking a bad beat. I have been on both ends

No, the OP said they were last to act and the other two players were all in.

If there were still players left who could still bet, the hand is dead. However, many casinos don't know the rules, and might not call it correctly.

I run a lot of games, and if a player was consistently flipping his cards over trying to get reads, I would warn him, and then kick him out if he wouldn't quit.

That was not my intentiion on flipping the cards before calling. I just forgot to say call because I was so excited about the straight flush with everybody betting into my hand. The last guy took forever to move all in and I was sitting in the little blind praying forever someone had pocket fives in their hand for a bad beat. As soon as he moved in I flipped my cards in front of me and put a chip on them.

The only danger is that if there would have been a player after you that you hadn't noticed or forgotten about. Technically, your hand would have been mucked, but most casinos try very hard to not muck hands. And most of them are surprisingly unaware of the official rules in many situations!!!!

Great hand BTW!!!!

For instance, did you know that if you are playing 7 stud, and it is on you to act, if you pick up your up cards, your hand is dead?

Did you know that making a fake motion toward the pot like you're going to fold is actually a muck?

Did you know that if you state what you have in your hand, you are actually mucked? Funny thing, you can lie all you want, but if you tell the truth, your hand is supposed to be dead.

Did you know that if a slow player lets the action get two players past him, he is required to call, and cannot raise and cannot fold?

Last month I had almost the exact same hand but it didn't win me quite as much money, although there was a nice "high hand" bonus. I was dealt 5-6 of hearts. Only 3 of us saw the flop, which came 4-8-A of hearts, so already I have a flush. Turn was a blank but I got the 7 of hearts on the river. I bet $10, next guy folds, next guy goes to $20. Then I go to $75 and he folds, so there just wasn't much money there for me to make. The pot was about $80 (keeping in mind that half of that was mine) but the high hand came through for $400, so that was cool.

I just found it funny we each had almost identical hands.

I went and played last night and as I thought the poker gods got even. I could not catch a card to save my life. And if I did, someone would snap it off. I get pocket Jack's someone has queens. I get a A J and flop comes JJ6 some one has pocket 6s. After being down about $800 I walked away, sat with my wife while she played blackjack then after about an hour decided to go try again. Accidently sat down at a 1 2 no limit game and was going to move when the players said this is not like any 1 2 game you have ever seen. It wasnt. It was the biggest game I ever sat in. It was $40 before the flop every hand. Built it up to $650 and hit a Huge flush to a 1300 pot. Got all my money back and winner in a huge hand. Played another couple of hours and left 100 winner. Whew.

Have you ever noticed that on TV the announcer grossly overuse poker terms? They keep saying "value bet" and it doesn't appear that they even know what it means.

I listen to poker announcers call a hand and say Ace-Two of diamonds. Drives me batty. "and a two comes out on the flop" Aaargggh...Now come on. It is Ace-Duece of diamond. At least talk the lingo.
