A Ponder man was arrested Monday after police say he stole a Justin police car and headed north at speeds up to 130 mph. Rusty Edward Taylor, 26, remained in the Denton County Jail on Tuesday on charges of evading arrest, theft and criminal trespass. He declined to comment.

Mr. Taylor was at the Ponder Police Department for questioning after neighbors called 911 to report seeing him leave their house with a sack as they arrived home. Mr. Taylor told police that he had been invited over and had arrived early. Officials released Mr. Taylor without charging him.

As Mr. Taylor was leaving, a Justin police officer walking behind him used a remote control to unlock his squad car. Mr. Taylor jumped in and drove off.

The pursuit extended north on FM156 and then onto Interstate 35 at speeds between 40 mph and 130 mph. Mr. Taylor used the squad car's lights and sirens and forced vehicles out of his way, according to the report. He also used the police radio as the chase went through Sanger, Valley View and Gainesville.

Police used road spikes north of Gainesville. The spikes blew out three of the tires, and Mr. Taylor surrendered.

Now the folks of Hazzard County weren't used to criminals fleeing from the police in police car's. Boy, they sure were in for one heck of a chase...
