This reminds me too much of the "Women shouldn't be in the locker room at all!" comments that hit my inbox after I put up the post linked above. Sainz shouldn't have to meet Brennan's or anyone else's standards except for her own, her employer's and those of the teams she covers. If every female sports reporter hits the locker room in full Amish attire, we'll know they're serious. But why should they have to?

On the other side, there were the comments made on a radio show by Washington Commanders running back Clinton Portis, who's probably having an interesting talk with the team's PR staff Tuesday. As reported by D.C. Sports, Portis said:

"You know man, I think you put women reporters in the locker room in positions to see guys walking around naked, and you sit in the locker room with 53 guys, and all of the sudden you see a nice woman in the locker room, I think men are gonna tend to turn and look and want to say something to that woman. For the woman, I think they make it so much that you can't interact and you can't be involved with athletes, you can't talk to these guys, you can't interact with these guys.

"And I mean, you put a woman and you give her a choice of 53 athletes, somebody got to be appealing to her. You know, somebody got to spark her interest, or she's gonna want somebody. I don't know what kind of woman won't, if you get to go and look at 53 men's packages. And you're just sitting here, saying 'Oh, none of this is attractive to me.' I know you're doing a job, but at the same time, the same way I'm gonna cut my eye if I see somebody worth talking to, I'm sure they do the same thing."

Well, that'll blow this thing wide open. Sheriff Gonna Getcha may have to turn in his badge.

He's probably a idiot for saying it but there's truth to what he's saying. Why he said it I don't know.

Nothing but truth in what he said, but a little PC should have been used in expressing it! I'm assuming he was asked a question about the Jets/Sainz situation...

I'm sure Portis would know how a female reporter would feel first hand. There are a lot of rumors out there that he is gay.

I don't think you guys understand how women think... They aren't like us degenerate guys. ;)

And just saw this 12 minutes ago:

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league quickly addressed the player’s remarks with the Commanders.

“The comments are clearly inappropriate, offensive, and have no place in the NFL,” he said in an e-mail. “We have contacted the Commanders and they will discuss the matter directly with Mr. Portis.”

A few hours later, the Commanders issued a statement from Portis.

“I was wrong to make the comments I did, and I apologize,” the statement said. “I respect the job that all reporters do. It is a tough job and we all have to work and act in a professional manner. I understand and support the team on these issues.”

Commanders spokesman Tony Wyllie also issued a statement, saying the Commanders “have a clear and unambiguous policy about being professional on these issues.”

“We will take the necessary steps to remind everyone about it,” Wyllie said. He did not say what those steps would be.

Oh yeah, those are Portis' words alright.

In defense of Portis, I'm sure the women he is used to hanging out with are exactly as he describes...and not coincidentally, I'm sure they talk just like Portis.

She should be dressed more professionally. So, yes, her style of clothing does matter. The players should be able to control themselves. But this culture's desire to sell sex appeal, bombard our senses with sex, sex, sex and then expect guys in the privacy of their lockerroom environment to not respond to a message they're getting constantly is a bit silly, IMO.

Again, nothing justifies sexually harassing a female reporter. But a female reporter should also understand the dynamics of male heterosexuality and conduct herself in a way that is appropriate when entering a locker room.

From what I've read, this woman blurs the line between "professionalism" and "immodesty."
