There are specific positions that it behooves a team to take them before they have to start in game 1 and QB heads that list if you want to win that season. Some need more time to acclimate and a lot of it has to do with the team, which makes it even more important to get out in front of it. A lot better for a QB to ease into his role on a better team as Rodgers did after carrying the clipboard.
You do get exceptions like Marino, Rothliesberger and Prescott stepping into good situations as a rookie QB.
The other two positions to me are OT, specifically LT, and DB. The move to the NFL from college is a tough one for OT's, as good as Big Smitty became, he struggled early on facing good DE's week after week instead of every so often in college.
Which leads me to the positions I want for the Cowboys with that 1st pick. If they tag Prescott, which I do not think they will do, it is QB without question and possibly even move up for Zack Wilson, in my opinion 1A in QB's in this draft.
If they do get they deal done with Prescott, Sewell, Leatherwood, Surtain or Farley works for me and the odds are one of them is there at 10. I would prefer the CB's because they need the immediate help on D but a rook CB isn't going to have a lot of impact early in the season. However, this was a really valuable year for Diggs because unlike Byron Jones, he got to play his natural position.
Any other positions you think should be picked before needed?
