It is of course subjective because we all may have different tastes.

There were lots of good songs. Just to throw one out, I will go with: Let's Get It On, Marvin Gaye

I guess my birth year sucked.

I don't even want to post a song off the list of songs that came out that year.

Hopefully this counts.

How about the theme song from that very movie written by Huey Lewis & the News, "The Power of Love"?

Phil Collins was pretty big that year too.

Don Henley's "Boys of Summer" and Dire Straits "Money For Nothin'" were big then too.

.....

Interesting! Ended up being a tough thing to consider. I found I didn't care for a lot of the music of 1954. Very much the heart of crooner-ville.

Looking around, I would have to say that this song was the best I could find. I prefer the original version, some people like the more mainstream Bill Haley & the Comets version. Elvis did a great cover of it later.

Shake, Rattle and Roll. This was the year that the term Rock 'n' Roll was first used. Honorable mention would probably go to Muddy Waters for Hoochie Coochie Man.

And a live-from-the-Apollo version, with poorer audio.

Doesn't seem to work, but it should be Iron Maiden "The Number of the Beast"
