Pro Day: Daviyon Nixon DT Iowa

Huge mistake. This dude reminds me of Jeremy Mincey or George Selvie. Nice motor and all, but skillset relegates him to more of a rotational role.
Which guy? You quoted about Onwuzurike and another about Milton Williams.

While Dallas has Williams highly graded, the question is how early in the draft would they select him? Word leaving the workout was the Bengals will seriously consider Williams at the top of the third round with the 69th selection, which is six picks before the Cowboys pick in round three. They may take him at 44, knowing he might not be there at 75 or trade up in the 2nd rd.
I hadn’t heard. Thanks.

I'm not sure where we play him, LE or 3T. What the article says, he was more of a gap occupier, where in the NFL he will be allowed to become a play maker. I have his name in pencil for 75, but it wouldn't shock me if they overdrafted him at 44. You know how this front office loves athletic traits, he fits the profile.

"A bit of a linear player, and lacks ideal lateral agility which limits his options as a pass rusher. Struggles to maintain leverage in the run game and his issue w/ rising after contact will make him a potential liability at the point of attack. Struggles to anchor down into a spot and hold his gap. "

Sounds like a rotational type to me. Stills will be a better pro, IMO.

Williams in the 2nd/3rd? You've got to be kidding. MANALIVE, why are we so horrific at drafting DT's? We're wanting to draft Crawford and Mincey in the 2nd and 3rd rounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’re saying that or you read that somewhere?

Because I can find some sites that love him and some sites that don’t. Some say he’s good against the run and some say he isn’t?

Which one is right?

If you did read that somewhere, what about it convinced you that it was right and the one’s who like him are wrong?

Nobody on the Cowboys, that I know of, has mentioned Onwuzurike. For all we know they’re not even interested.

I hate these small schooled, raw prospects, but the front office keeps on going after them in hopes of finding a diamond in the rough. Let's hope Cincy takes him.

This is a guy that I’ve liked since the start of the pre-draft process. He’s got good size for a 3T and is a real athlete at DT. Also, I like Iowa players. They’re tough, hard nosed, no-nonsense guys who are usually smart and well coached. Iowa has a good program there and they do a good job with their strength and conditioning. Their players typically perform well at the next level.

He has been my DT1 since January. If Dallas could get him at 44 I’d be thrilled. He isn’t just a good athlete... he is a very smart football player that understands the game and is still getting better.

Big 10 defensive player of the year and showed up in every game this season. One of my favorite players at a position that I’d like to draft.

To compare to other players, just go here and type in the players name in the search:

Do you see him as a 3 tech, a 1 tech, nt, or all of the above?

A 3T. His lower half is strong but his upper body could use a year in an NFL strength program. He isn’t weak or anything but his lower half is stronger.

I like how he plays and I think he’s just scratching the surface of what he’ll become. He has good football IQ and as I’ve mentioned, I like Iowa players. They put out tough, hard-nosed players who typically transition well to the NFL.

Round 2 just seems too high but honestly, I haven’t spent much time on watching him yet.

I love the motor on Nixon. In his film he is just one of those guys that is absolutely relentless. It looked like he was playing harder than everyone on the field. I also like how he uses his hands at the point of attack. He keeps linemen off of him and plays with violence. I don't think he is the next incarnation of Aaron Donald but who really is? He is an excellent player from a great conference with really good measurables. I would be totally cool with Nixon in 2nd and would absolutely love him as a 3rd rounder. We need smart, tough football players on this team and in particular on our interior line. I just wonder where we are going to our big inside technique DT since Nixon (and a lot of the guys we are looking at in the 2nd-4th rounds are more 3 techs in my opinion).

As far as Milton Williams goes, I've watched the film on the guy and man I do not want us to draft him. Watch the bowl game film from this year. That is really not good tape. He is getting thrashed by small school OL almost every play. Constantly turning his back and getting driven off the point of attack. He seems like he has got some quickness and some stuff to like about him in the pass rush, but I think he is going to be a below average run defender and that is the last thing we need. He seems undersized to play DT and honestly I don't really want another work in progress at DE. If we take him in the third I will be very disappointed.

Every year I go by the scouting reports in Lindy's. After much study over the years, I've found them to be the most accurate.

The scouts can evaluate a player better than I ever could. Or anyone on this site for that matter. Of course, no one gets it right all the time.

Williams is a guy you throw a 7th at. Drafting him before the 5th would be stupid stupid stupid.

Watch the tape on Stills. He plays like Aaron Donald lite. Which is still top 10.

You guys were talking about him. I was responding that I didn't like him before maybe the 5th.
