And the last pick of the year, what would be a draft without another blocking TE!

Prospect Profile: Alex Holmes
By TFY Draft Preview
Date: Apr 3, 2005

Alex Holmes
School: USC
Ht: 6-1.5 Wt: 265 40: 4.94 Year: 4Sr

Bio: Two year starter who posted 24/244 last year after 29/320/2 as a junior in ‘02. Missed the 2003 campaign with a back injury.

Positives: Efficient, hard working tight end who does the little things well. Stays square blocking, displays strength in his upper body and handles opposing lineman. Solid position blocker who walls defenders from the action. Runs solid routes, stays low exiting breaks and positions himself to make the reception. Extends vertically and grabs the ball from the air. Comes back to the quarterback, making himself an available target and displays excellent concentration.

Negatives: Not a knee bender or leverage blocker. Not explosive in any aspect and slow releasing off the line. Does not always win out in battles as one would expect.

Analysis: A solid prospect with a well rounded game, Holmes has marginal size/speed numbers for the next level and is best suited as a second tight end for an NFL team.
