Pryor, four other Buckeyes suspended

COLUMBUS, Ohio

The NCAA has suspended Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor and four of his teammates for five games in 2011, the university and the governing body for college athletics announced Thursday.

The players will be eligible for the Buckeyes' appearance in the Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.

Pryor, Mike Adams, Dan "Boom" Herron, DeVier Posey, and Solomon Thomas are the players suspended. Jordan Whiting will sit one game.

Athletic Director Gene Smith will announce the team's decision at a Noon press conference. The Buckeyes have suspended the players and will report their actions to the NCAA.

Ohio State will appeal the suspensions to the NCAA and attempt to reduce the suspensions. The appeal will begin next week.

"These young men went into these decisions with the right intent, to help their families", Smith said.

The Buckeyes initially suspended the players for the Sugar Bowl, but the NCAA immediately reinstated the players for the game.

The NCAA should make them cover up any portion of the tatoo that can be visible while playing. Just kidding.

So why do they get to play in the Sugar Bowl but not next August/September?

Oh wait, probably because the NCAA has to do anything they can to prop up their corrupt system.

Hell Ohio St suspended them for the Sugar Bowl and the NCAA immediately reinstated them.

But can't play next year?

Yeah pretty screwed up.

It is easy to see why OSU was ready to suspend them for the bowl game. OSU already has their money for this year, so these guys missing the Sugar Bowl would not really have hurt them from a financial standpoint. Missing 5 games next year could make a bigger dent in their pockets. Lose some games because you don't have some guys could lead to not going to a premier bowl game next season.

How is their getting tats helping their families?! Were they tattoos of family members or something?! :laugh2:
j/k...I'm assuming they are referring to the selling of their memorabilia...

They didn't have to pay for the tattoos. That saved their families money, which they could then use for other important stuff. Tats can get very expensive.

You know the tattoo parlors and artist are displaying those tats on a wall or web site in order to drum up more business. That was the trade off. Free tattoo services in exchange for local celebrity endorsement.

Do players get to keep their textbooks, or are they required to return the books to the university?

Like any of their families are fronting any money anyway. They have a full ride which includes living expenses. They get monthly checks.

I may be in the minority here, but arent those rings and trophies theirs? I say let them do whatever they want with them. They keep them after they graduate, and if they sell them after they graduate so what nobody would give a hoot. Just because the big bad NCAA perceives it as ethically reprehensible then they get suspended for 5 games because of it?

NFL players sell their superbowl rings all the time, even after they earned millions doing it. I say if the property is theirs and not property of OSU and they didn't receive any of it from agents or nfl team spokespeople then let them do as they please with it.

Didn't players at Alabama get in trouble for selling their textbooks instead of turning them into the school?

I still have textbooks for school, not that I remember looking at them afterward.

Does the NCAA require athletes to give books back?

Favoritism. Very sad. I'm still surprised that they dropped the hammer on USC. Of course it took half a decade, but at least it happened.

I know this is a little different, but breaking the rules is breaking the rules. Pryor and the other 4 should not be allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl, period.

The poster who mentioned the Dez Bryant situation is spot on. His college career was ended. B.S.

Actually, I don't really think it matters.

Ohio State has a pretty easy schedule next year.

Akron
Toledo
@Miami (Who is losing their Coaching Staff, their starting Backfield, Starting WR and TE and 4 starters on their Defense.)
Colorado
MSt.
@Nebraska (Who is starting Martinez at QB, lossing both starting WRs, RB, one OT and OG on offense and 4 starters on Defense plus their All American Kicker)
@Ill.
Wisc
Ind.
Purdue

PSU (Who will have a Soph at QB and a WR returning on offense. That's it. On defense it's better thou. They return one DE, and both CBs. So a total of 5 starters on both sides of the ball).
@Mich.

Ohio States schedule next year is pretty much cake IMO. 4 game or 5 games, I don't really think it matters much. Would have been more painful had they missed this Bowl Game IMO.

The latest news the past couple of days is that Jim Tressel knew about this before the NCAA did and lied about it.

Now HE'S suspended for only two games for next year, by the school (Toledo and Akron :laugh2:). The NCAA hasn't ruled on any discipline yet.
