Thinking about getting one. Maybe a WWII type game. I haven't played much of them so was looking for advice on what one of the best ones might be.

I heard Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is pretty good but have never tried it myself.

It might be wise to go onto the Playstation Network and download some demos, I'm sure that are a bunch of war game demos on there!

I look at reviews on this website a lot and agree with most of them. Click on the genre and go to shooters for war games.

If you're looking for a World War II game, you owe it to yourself to get Call of Duty: World at War.

Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway is also a good one if you prefer a more hands-off, commander-type role.

If you like air combat, check out Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII.

For WW2 go with Call of Duty World at War. Outdated, but still good.

Bad Company 2 is a great game. Great online. I think you'd be more happy if you get BC2, but either one will be good.

As far as I'm concerned, BC2 is the best online multiplayer war game out there at the moment.

I'd go with Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter...though it's a real war.

So what do you mean, War games? First Person Shooters? Strategy games? Flight games?

First Person Shooters - depends on if you want to play Single Player or Multiplayer. The Call of Duty games are fine for singleplayer, but the multiplayer is full of rage-inducing glitches, and cheaters/exploiters galore. Also, the CoD online community is very, very immature. I prefer Battlefield Bad Company 2 for online play. Avoid Medal of Honor, it's garbage. MAG is fun, massive battles, but has a steep learning curve and its online-only.
Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6 are kinda meh. Which pains me to say, because I was a huge fan of the original Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear, and the original Ghost Recon on PC. The modern Clancy games have lost their way, sadly :/

Strategy games - there's really only one strat game worth playing on ps3, Valkyria Chronicles. Be warned, though, its very japanese (anime characters, sappy story, etc) but the gameplay is rock-solid. Kind of a alternate-world-WWI-Europe feel.

Flight games - If you like flightsims, IL-2 Sturmhovik and Apache: Air Assault are you sim options (I have A:AA and its fantastic). For more arcade-y play, there's Blazing Angels franchise and Ace Combat (beware, this one has a really horrible story)

Let me stray from the 1st person shooters and suggest Company of Heroes as a great strategy war game.

I've had the game for years and still play it weekly for a couple of hours. Should be dirt cheap these days, but there are 2 expansion packs.

Company of Heroes is a PC game. Not PS3.

And I have problems calling it a "great" strategy war game. It's basically just a meatgrinder strat game, like Starcraft/Dawn of War/any other popular RTS. Build a ton of units, throw them at the enemy, watch them get mowed down, build more. There's very little ACTUAL strategy unless you are playing online against a human opponent that knows what they are doing.

Also, there's a fair amount of bs in CoH as well. I once had a pack of 4 Shermans that i was sending around the map to clean up straggling German units, and happened upon a PzIV from the rear. The Shermans were point-blank behind the pzIV and every single shot either bounced(off the REAR of the tank) or missed entirely from an in-game distance of about 30 feet. the pzIV calmly swung the turret round and lit up 3 of my shermans with 1 shot each. Right then and there I broke the game in half and threw it away.

You're right, I figured he also had a PC considering he's probably typing on one.

You could probably use some anger management. :laugh2:
