OK, I know it's early but there's been enough released about these two new consoles, including some proprietary games, for the gamers to have formed an opinion about which they would prefer.

I also realize some of that is based on prior usage and a preference for one over the other like my sons who are PS guys from the beginning.

I haven't had a system in many years and am going to spring for one of these, or maybe both if a strong enough case is made for both.

This X Box Game Pass has me leaning in that direction but anything Microsoft can easily make me lean away.

One concern I have is the controller. I am a refined gentleman in his latter years, OK, I am a codger and do have a little of that aches and pains in my hands but I ain't using the A word. I am concerned about some hand cramping and don't know if there is an advantage with either controller.

What is your opinion, so far, with just what you know about each system.

Thanks for asking that but surely you must be thinking of someone else? I have far too much respect for that refreshing elixir than to spill it. Besides that, when on one on my imbibification journeys, I wear two oversized sponges on my feet.
On the tops, I assume.

Considering your hands cramping, I would go with the Xbox controller. The PS controllers are relatively small and found the dual analogs being horiz. hurts by wrists when playing some games. The L analog being higher seems to help with this but tbh I still play Playstation over my Xbox just out of habit but mainly for the games.

To Xbox's credit it looks like they will have some interesting new IPs this next gen. where Sony has dominated games the last 5 years.

The Game Pass seems to be the leveler for the reviewers because most agree with you about the games and I don't know if Sony has anything the equivalent of that and the backwards compatibility seems to be an issue as well.

i still have my ps2...and play Madden '08.
i put it on the rookie level and my boy Julius Jones runs for...on avg...200+ a game.

recently i started changing Tyrus Thompson to Herschel Walker.
change his name.
his number.
make him 6'1...and 225.
and give him 99's across the board.
yeah...the Commanders, giants, eagles and cardinals have no idea how to stop ol'Herschel...especially on punt returns.

Didn't know about any of this info/systems being released soonish. Thanks for posting.
Sarek, these game people should be running the real news sites. There almost as important to me as the iPhoners that take it apart when it first comes out and show me all the cool hidden stuff.

If think you would enjoy online gaming with your sons, then get a PS5

I like the idea of the game pass too and Microsoft did buy up a lot of 3rd party developers recently to focus on some 1st party games. If they had 3rd party games like Red Dead 2 available day 1 on Game pas, that would be a game changer.

They are losing money on the service now, so it's hard to imagine how they would profit putting say Halo on there day 1 forgoing the general 60 they would get from sales with the game pass 10/mo structure.

It's Microsoft, so they have the $ to front it for awhile. If they actually release their new stuff on game pass day 1, I'd be surprised but that would pull some Sony people over (can't argue with that deal).

Like you referenced, I don't really trust Microsoft after this latest gen. but do like some of the new games coming out and will likely buy once the price drops after a year or 2.

I use to buy all the competing consoles a while ago because I enjoy the interactive entertainment video games provide, but recently I've been just buying the PlayStation consoles for their better first-party exclusive games and playing everything else on PC. Fortunately if the Xbox has an exclusive game that I want to play, I can usually find it on PC since Microsoft likes to make their games also available on their operating system. I find this to be the most economical approach. As for your concern with the controller, the PlayStation controller does receive criticism for it's design, as previously mentioned in this thread. Personally I don't have any issues stretching my thumb to use the analog sticks on the DualShock 4, because I have large hands, but for those that prefer the Xbox controller there's a solution:

I will get PS5 just as soon as it hits the market. I prefer the Playstation exclusives over XBox. I will probably end up with both though. I don't mind the dual shock controller at all.

Shoot, I'm on Amazon right now. Thanks for the link Juggs. Feel a little simple I didn't look into this earlier, these are the Esports controllers for fighting games.

Ended up getting a knock off version for $40 but got good reviews. (Pictek?)
