I had posted previously about shopping for an acoustic guitar. I tried out guitars by Alvarez, Guild, Fender, Ibanez, Takamine, Seagull, and Taylor.

The Taylor was the Holy Grail, but even their lower models were outside of my budget. It came down to Seagull or Takamine. It was a super tough choice because both those guitars felt nice and sounded good. After going back and forth, I finally went with the Takamine. It just feels better in my hands, and I liked its slightly crisper tone better. The electronics all work well in it. It was just the right choice for me. Here it is.

Nice! Enjoy it! I have never seen a two piece saddle like that on an acoustic guitar before. I have seen the individual metal saddles on electrics. Is that something new? What is the purpose/benefit? I suspect it is to get the a better action on the B and E strings. Pretty cool idea.

That's a Takamine patent, so you'll only see that on their acoustics. The idea is to do it that way to be more accurate with the intonation. It was one of the things that made me gravitate toward Takamine. I tried out some other very good guitars in the price range. Guitars by Guild, Alvarez, Seagull, and Ibanez were quite good, and I nearly chose the Seagull, but this Takamine just seemed perfect for me.

Edit: It might seem a minor thing but I also love the headstock.

Yes, the Spark has settings for acoustic guitars. This is the first really nice acoustic that I've owned. I've always had nice electrics and clunker acoustics. I did have an Applause acoustic at one point, which was kind of like Ovation's Epiphone, but it was't all that great. It had an aluminum fretboard. To be honest, I don't even like Ovation's acoustics, though I know some guitar players love them. This Takamine has wonderful tone, definitely the best in its price range. To get better, I would have to jump up to a much higher-priced guitar such as a Taylor.

Oh, btw, I went with Claire as her name. So my guitars are named as follows:
Audrey -- an Ibanez Artist ARZ electric
Zelda -- a Yamaha acoustic
Claire -- a Takamine acoustic

A coworker just dropped off a Taylor mini in my office for me to try out.

No electronics and he says the sound from such a small body guitar is amazing.

I've had a few acoustic guitars over the years but never a really nice one.

You'll be happy to know that most of the Nashville songwriters play Takamine and Guild. The performers play the Taylors likely because they're given them by Taylor free..

Gave the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany a test drive last night.
Smaller scale and very light (less that 4lbs)

The smaller scaled helped with my reach over
with a bad RH shoulder.

With a pick the sound was great for such a small guitar.
In finger picking however the sound from the small body was not
near as impressive. However, my finger picking skills have
diminished with lack of practice and age so it was probably
more me than the equipment. A man has to know his limitations.

Light, beautiful, and a comes with a really nice case if you pay retail.

Can't play any of my ovations anymore because of a bad shoulder. They're just too bloody thick. My weight doesn't help either with that silly round back. Best I can do now is my electric (LTD ESP-1000 Koa). Much thinner neck and lighter than a LesPaul and so easy to play. Hugely underrated guitars.
