Questions for people who know about beds

I don't know all that much about beds, but I need to get one. When I first moved back to Omaha in 2016, I picked up an inexpensive queen-sized mattress and a matching box spring. It turns out there's a reason why it was inexpensive. The thing has already worn out, at least the mattress has. The box spring appears to be okay. Normally, I would just go to some place that sells beds and pump their brains, but these are not normal times. I need to just order something online and have it delivered.

Queen-sized is the right size for me, and I believe I can simply continue to use this queen-sized box spring. I'm thinking of just sending off for a queen-sized mattress and then plopping it on top of my box spring. I've been intrigued by the notion of getting one of those memory foam/gel hybrids. I've found a couple of them. It looks like the headboards aren't included, but I could always order one separately or even later.

If I understand this right, these memory foam/gel hybrid mattresses can just go on top of my existing box spring. I don't need a standard mattress to put these things on top of, right? I just wanted to make sure I'm correct before I order. Like I say, I don't know that much about beds.

Here are the two that I've found:

Do you think I'm on the right track or am I screwing this up? It would also be good if Catherine Deneuve likes it when she visits me from the 1960s.

I was in the same boat last year and purchased this 10 inch memory foam mattress from Amazon and so far absolutely love it.
https://www.amazon.com/PrimaSleep-P...arden&sprefix=10+inch,garden,178&sr=1-50&th=1

Went ahead and got a new frame and box springs as well{just bought them locally}. The pain i had in my right shoulder vanished when i started sleeping on this new mattress. I have seen some people that have set them directly on the floor or even a directly on top of a frame{given if there are enough slats} I myself have it on top of the frame/box springs so yes you can place it on top of a box spring if you like. Another thing, it will some shipped to you flattened, vacuum sealed and rolled up in a box. Once you open the seal around it the mattress will "expand" to whatever depth you purchased. And it will take several hours to do so, just be patient. Mine is a 10 inch and expanded to around 9.8 inches.
Like i said earlier i love it and will NEVER go back to a spring mattress.
Btw that first one you linked is a hybrid mattress, which means it has springs as well as memory foam.

I tested a few memory foam beds, and absolutely hated them. I couldn't even roll over, and if I stay in one position all night, my back will kill me in the morning, and probably a couple of days after.

Thanks. I might even order the same one as yours, except in the queen size. I have some back pain trouble, and the worn-out spring mattress is totally sinking in the middle/side and driving me nuts. Not good for my back I'm sure.

I bought a memory foam about a year and a half ago and put it on my waterbed platform -- I took the sides off the platform first. If you have firm box springs, it can go on those. They sell beds frames with slats that these are supposed to go on. I believe most of them say the slats need to be less than 3" apart.

The one I got was a bit firm for a month or so, and I did wake up a little sore, but now I love it. I don't know if it got softer, or if my body had to adjust from sleeping on a very soft waterbed for 30 years.

I am in the process of buying a new mattress and know two people that say this company makes the best one they've ever slept on. I am going to try them out because they offer a full guarantee and delivery and set up.

I live alone and have the tendency to get right in the middle of a queen size and I noticed mine lately is starting to look like Psycho Mom mattress.

If I could afford it, I'd get a sleep number bed...Well, I assume I would, because everyone I know who has one raves about it. I'd obviously try one out first.

Rev, I don't want to know what bed you get as much as who ends up in it with you and your imagination. And, of course, what decade we are in to set the scene.

I live in this decade. My time travel excursions are only temporary, and I'm laying off them for now after my near disaster last time of nearly getting stuck in 1965 BC.
