When did the Boys defense suck?
1. Buffalo game
2. 49ers game
3. Green Bay game
4. Dolphins game, last drive
It seems to me that opposing teams at times figure a way of successfully attacking Quinn's defense, and he has no counter-attack plan, so the other teams continue beating our defense.
I remember the great Tom Landry teams used to face opponents who schemed to counter the Cowboys flex defense, but Landry had all the counter moves to neutralize these strategies and the Boys' defense would prevail. Quinn's defense has been exposed by other teams and he has no clue what to do. Game over. This explains numbers 1-4.
Then there are certain superstars who transcend bad coaches' strategies and make impact plays that can can carry a team. Where are the great pass rushers on this team? How come no one else has double digit sacks? Having Micah pass rush so much has made our LB line of defense invisible. We need some Ken Norton and Hollywood Henderson types who excelled in LB play. The losses of great LB play from LVE's rookie year along with J Smith's only great year has exposed this team.
If you want to see a Championship defense, look at the Jan 1978 Super Bowl victory over Denver. Look at Randy White, Harvey Martin and Too Tall Jones dominate, incredible domination over the Broncos' offensive line.
This 2023 offensive line could never dominate and win with the run. Our center and RT have not played to a very good level and have not opened up holes. We need to get more Tyler Smith type players in the lineup, but Jerry likes free agent OL's like Steele and Bass and a hugely overweight 5th rounder in Asim Richards. If the OL is improved by 40-50%, we can have a more consistent performance from Dak when his passing lanes are covered. Dak has also misjudges his speed when running sideways. He thinks he can run around players and is caught for too many sacks, when he should have thrown the ball away.
This offseason requires new defensive players who can stop the run and control the LOS. The run domination against us is inexcusable. We need upper echelon level LB's. The draft alone cannot be used. Sam Williams must get better to be a dominant pass rusher.
