Quinton Coples

Doesn't really matter. With those ? He won't fall to us. Assuming no injuries. Too much physical talent.

People were saying that last year about Nick Fairley. There was even some talk about him going #1 overall after his performance in the BCS championship game. Then he began to fade because of concerns of discipline, his shoulder injury and he measured in smaller than expected at the Combine.

All of a sudden he falls to #13 and gets drafted by the Lions.

A lot can change between now and the draft.

If he falls we have to take him. He is the impact complement that this defense is missing, DeCastro or no DeCastro.

He's not worth getting excited over because it's unlikely he falls to us, but it's far from a sure thing he's taken before 14. I think everyone here thought Robert Quinn would go before 14, Brian Orakpo would go before 13, ect.

Really if he slips by Jacksonville (#7) and Carolina (#8), then we got a shot. Miami, Buffalo, KC and Arizona all have young quality starters on the D-Line. Miami had a ton, Buffalo has Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus, so I doubt they draft another DE. KC has Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson and Arizona has Calias Campbell, Darnell Dockett and the NT Williams.

Seattle may take him. Pete Carol seems to favor big D-Linemen, but they really need an edge rusher, not an interior guy like Coples.

not really, he played DT in 2010. In the NFL he could play 3-4 DE, and could be a decent 4-3 LDE, but wouldn't be a 10+ sack guy at DE.

Is Coples really an every down DE in the 3-4? He weighs in at 285 but thats really not a whole lot of bulk for a guy that is 6'6. Even just looking at him he looks rather lanky. Hes definitely an intriguing prospect, but Im just not sure he fits our D best.

That would make him about 5-7 lbs lighter than NT, Jay Ratliff. Besides, I'm thinking he puts on a few lbs between now and when he plays his first down in the NFL. Like Leon Lett, the guy is just long AND explosive. Strong to boot.

2010 (DT): 10 sacks, 15.5 TFLs.

2011 (DE): 7.5 sacks, 15 TFLs.

BTB has a piece up that looks at Production Ratio.

Production Ratio measures a player's impact play potential by adding sacks and TFLs together and then dividing them by the number of college games played.

Over his career, Quinton Coples had a 1.29 (teams want at least a 1.0, the higher the number the better).

Coples had a 1.85 when looking only at 2010 and 2011.

Here are the top ten 2012 prospects just looking at the last two seasons.

1. Vinny Curry (6-5, 242): 23 sacks, 40 TFLs, 25 gms, PR 2.52
2. Jonathan Massaquoi (6-2, 250): 19.5 sacks, 31 TFLs, 25 gms, PR 2.02
3. Bruce Irvin (6-2, 245): 22.5 sacks, 29 TFLs, 26 gms, PR 1.98
4. Quinton Coples (6-6, 285): 17.5 sacks, 30.5 TFLs, 26 gms, PR 1.85
(t)5. Brandon Lindsey (6-2, 250): 18.5 sacks, 29 TFLs, 26 gms, PR 1.83
(t)5. Frank Alexander (6-4, 255): 15.5 sacks, 32 TFLs, 26 gms, PR 1.83
7. Courtney Upshaw (6-2, 265): 15.5 sacks, 31.5 TFLs, 26 gms, PR 1.81
8. Melvin Ingram (6-2, 276): 19 sacks, 26 TFLs, 27 gms, PR 1.67
9. Whitney Mercilus (6-4, 265): 17 sacks, 25.5 TFLs, 26 gms, PR 1.63
10. Shea McClellin (6-3, 258): 15.5 sacks, 25 TFLs, 26 games, PR 1.56
Coples is the only DL on the list.

These stats makes me want V. Curry even more .

Coples in the first, Whitney Mercilus/Bruce Irvin/Vinny Curry in the second. And those measurables for Curry have to be wrong - Curry is closer to 6'3 than 6'5 and he's closer to 262 than 242.

Mercilus and Irvin are the more dynamic pass rushers while Curry is better against the run.
