Another of the classic soul artists:
Soul man Luther Ingram, who scored a #3 pop hit with 1972’s “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want to Be Right,” passed away yesterday in St. Louis, where he lived; he was 69.
Ingram died from kidney disease; he had a kidney transplant a few years ago.
The Jackson, Tennessee native became one of the top artists at red hot Stax Records during the early ‘70s. His other hits included “Ain’t That Loving You (For More Reasons Than One)” and “I’ll Be Your Shelter.” He co-wrote the Staples Singers hit, “Respect Yourself.”
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline, sons Luther Jr. (Eric) and Kenneth, a sister and five brothers.
