Missed 3 field goals today, including the would-be game winner from 34 yards out...

Janikowski's general fattness also prevented him from making any sort of a football move on the Cards TD kick return. Tough luck for Cable and the Raiders.

I said it then and I'm still saying it, that should go down as one of dumbest 1st round picks ever.

Can you imagine if jerry jones had wasted a 1st rounder on a kicker.

Oakland's 2000 draft:

1st round Jaikowski
2nd round Jerry Porter WR
4th round Junior Ioane DT
5th round Shane Lechler P
7th round Mondriel Fulcher TE
7th round Clifton Black DB

Porter was okay, but nothing spectacular. Lechler has been the best pick as one of the best punters in NFL history. Is that a great thing? You don't need an all time great punter to win. You just need a good one and often times you don't have to draft one in the 5th round to find one.

Janikowski sucks. Big leg but not even a money kicker (only a career 77% FG kicker). You can never justify drafting a kicker in the 1st round but if you do, he better be the next Vinatieri at least.

Even if your kicker made 100% of his field goals for his whole career, unless he single handedly won you some huge playoff games/super bowls like Vinatiera, he still wouldn't be worth a first round pick.

Exactly. The Cowboys won a SB with Lin freaking Elliot.

Oh man, that's awful. And if I remember correctly some media people actually praised him on the Janikowski pick.
