I had a great time at the new stadium yesterday, and had a blast hanging out with Cowboy fans that were sitting around me. It was my first visit, and let me say that the place just takes your breath away.
A few of my thoughts, helpful hints for future visits, and a funny moment or two are below:
1) Park at Lincoln Square if you go to a game. Thanks to "Danny White" for telling me about it. I parked at the Bed, Bath & Beyond, bought a $40 gift card from there, put the receipt on my dash, and walked straight to the stadium in 8 minutes. Taco Bell was charging $60 for parking, or you have to buy $60 worth of $0.89 tacos. That would be something.
2) When I got to the stadium, the first person I saw was Mickey Spagnola walking towards the press entrance. I said, "Hey Mickey, this is a big day!" He kinda looked at me funny, like he was surprised that someone actually recognized him. He almost looked disappointed to go to work.
:laugh2:
3) Temperature was cold. I froze my tail off until the doors opened up. The Miller Lite girls were keeping me warm, and vice versa.
4) There weren't as many Philly fans there as I expected. I had a few sitting right next to me. A Philly fan 2 sections over from me got tossed out of the stadium. It was fun to watch.
5) Attendance was only around 93,000 or so. C'mon Cowboy fans! I drove 460 miles each way just for this game. Surely the locals can max out the attendance for a playoff game!
6) Crowd noise: Our favorite subject. After attending games at LSU, I must say that the crowd at Cowboys Stadium is disappointing. There is no comparison. The problem is that the stands aren't filled with hardcore fans. Many of them are running around getting their nachos, or avoiding their ex-girlfriends, or meeting up with people they see every day. To make noise, you have to actually know what is going on in the game. It isn't social hour for crying out loud! And you're supposed to eat before you get to the game, instead of buying $15 nachos anyway! That's what tailgating is for! Any coincidence that LSU is the tailgating capital of the world, and has one of the loudest crowds in football? Hmmm...
7) Bathroom lines at halftime are horrendous and hurts crowd noise because most dudes can't get back to their seats in time for the 2nd half kickoff. I always go at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters. If you go at the half, don't plan on getting back to your seat until half the 3rd quarter is over.
8) Always get a seat. The party pass thing looks miserable.
9) The video board is crystal clear and simply amazing. If I was a kicker, I would be ashamed to hit it with the ball.
10) I worry about our players next week (from a mental standpoint). Perhaps it is because this is the only game I've attended at home this year. Aside from the Gatorade dunk, and Wade being carried off on shoulders, you would have thought this team just won the Super Bowl. I hope the hunger is there next week...
11) TV doesn't do our team justice. We have a very fast and physical team. Philly looked like they were running in molasses.
12) Jenkins is a blast to watch. He and the Philly receivers were chirping all game long. I focused on Jenkins most of the game. I would have loved to listen to the conversation with Philly's WRs.
:laugh2:
That's pretty much it. It was a great, great experience, and I hope to do it again in a couple of weeks.
