This would be a clutch replacement for Texas.

Are they still wanting to name Applewhite the O coordinator or are they going after the Boise guy?

It's up to Major to decide whether he wants to stay at Texas or follow Muschamp to Florida.

As for Shannon, it makes too much sense. He's the best DC available and he'll be able to keep recruits. It can be argued that he'd be a better DC than Muschamp

I don't think there's any chance he would be HC at Texas. At least I hope not. Much better DC than HC.

After naming Muschamp HCIW, I want to really make sure that the next time that is used all parties involved are on board and knows what HCIW means! I'm right there with you about the HC!

Yes pelase. No more HCIW unless the timetable is short and clearly defined.

I honestly hope there is no next time. Programs like Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma should not lessen themselves to HCIW's.

They could try and get former Longhorn player Jerry Gray to come in as the DC. Just like the Cowboys should look at former Cowboy player Dennis Thurman as a possible DC.

Mack Brown is gonna be around for 5 more years, minimum. He loves that job and wants to have a greater legacy than DKR

More speculation on Teryl Austin

By Randy Riggs

Mon Dec. 13, 3:15PM
Hookem.com’s Bobby Burton has posted on the Hookem.com message board two brief but potentially telling conversations that a reporter for the 247sports.com affiliate at Florida has had today regarding Gators’ defensive coordinator Teryl Austin being a candidate for the Longhorns’ opening:

The posting reads in part:

A 247Sports reporter spoke to a Florida assistant coach a few minutes ago.
When asked, “Is Teryl (Austin) going to Texas?”
The response was:
“I think he’s going to Texas. I think it’s a done deal.”
The same reporter also spoke to another person within the Florida athletic department who said he thought Austin would be headed to Texas.
When broached with the question, “Where is coach Austin going to end up?”
The reply was, “Think Big 12.”
Our reporter: “Texas?”
Source: “Yeah.”
Here is the link to the post on the Hookem.com board.

Statesman reported this.
