Ravens release cornerback Rolle

4/13/2010 2:06:05 PM

Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens have terminated the contract of veteran cornerback Samari Rolle, it was announced today.

Rolle, who will be 34 before the start of the season, missed all of last season with a neck injury.

In 2007, Rolle was diagnosed with epilepsy. In 2008, Rolle played 10 games, with injuries again limiting him. He still had three interceptions.
============================================

I'm hoping that the Ravens don't draft McCourty ahead of us.

I've seen several mock drafts with the Ravens taking a CB (and specifically McCourty as well).

You're the second person I've read mention us wanting McCourtney.

Is he your first choice? If so, why?

He's my first realistic choice. (My first choice is Iupati, but I'm not holding my breath.)

The reason I like McCourty is that I think he will get a lot of playing time as a rookie - both in nickel and dime defenses and esp on STs. He could probably make an NFL roster on his STs ability alone.

In terms of playing CB, he has all the physical attributes to take over for Newman - possibly as early as next year when Newman's compensation ramps up.

Also, he has no character concerns whatsoever. He loves playing football.

The only negative is that while his cover skills are very good and he's instinctive, his ball skills could be better. But that's why he's an end of the 1st round pick and not a top 12 pick.

If you look at Ourlads, NFL Draft Bible as examples, they also have McCourty as their 2nd rated CB.

Thanks. I'll look into him.

Truth be told, I haven't given CB much consideration as an early pick based solely on how well Jenkins has played, how steady Newman has been, and how much I still have hopes for OS. But Newman is getting up there, and his salary isn't cheap.

That, and you need good corners in this pass happy league.

I'm hoping Pouncey is there before Iupati, he can start from day one and play guard and center

We need a safety not a CB.

As I stated earlier, I was keeping it realistic.

ET and Berry will be long gone, imo.

He's my darkhorse, too. Love his ability to cover, and love what you hear about his dedication and personality.
