Worst case Dallas has two years left with him. While I agree Dallas would likely want to resign him, you never know what happens with injuries, etc......This time next year would be the time to possibly try and resign him if some type of hometown discount is available....

he will get a new deal this year. That is how it works. You dont want him in his last year of his contract with the ability to field other offers.

He will be taken care of this season.

Nope........Witten, James and Williams were all signed with one year left on their contracts....he will not be taken care of until next off season at the earliest......let's not forget, Newman is at the level that a franchise tag is possible as well, imroving Dallas leverage......

Romo is in the last year of his contract and is the priority...

Why would Dallas throw a bunch of guaranteed money at somone who is locked up for 2 more years (07 and 08 seasons)? That's just not smart business unless he extends at a serious discount to market value.....A Newman extension won't happen til next off season at the earliest...

k well then there is no need to argue over it. He will be here regardless.

if that is what you think then great..

I don't recall the details of his contract but if I remember correctly the last year of it is very cost prohibitive and something would have to be done before that season ('08). It would not surprise me to see us clean up the situation this year because it will become a priority before '08.

The escalator occurs in 09, which is the voidable year for Newman....we're good through 08.

Thanks for the correction. I knew that there was something about the final year of his deal that made it too expensive to be realistic but I'm sure that Jerry and Stephen won't let it get to that point.

Actually what looked like too expensive back in 2003 might not be that bad NOW.

That is free agency and a rising salary cap. Look at the Hutchinson deal last year. Most screamed when they heard what he got. Now is doesn't seem so outlandish after what we have seen the last 48 hours.

That is smart b/c 2 years from now you'll see salaries that exceed 10 mill a year. Buy now, save a ton later.
