So I'm chowing down on my mom's out of this word Chili Colorado tonight, and of course a drop of red chili has to land on my brand new Romo jersey just above the 9.
Anyone have any foolproof and proven techniques on getting the stain out? Tried scrubbing it immediately, treated it with Shout, and it's currently soaking in cold water and laundry detergent. There's still evidence of a stain there.
Much obliged.
...the stain been on your jersey?
If you are within a couple of days you have a chance.
You have to wet the fibres of the jersey to release the stain.
Step 1. With water and holding the stain in one hand add a mixture of your favourite dishwashing soap in the middle of the spot. Why dishwashing soap? You need a grease cutter in the stain to lift it off the jersey fibres.
Step 2. Just work in small circles in the area of the spot. Make sure your hands are clean when doing this. Last thing you need is to clean the spot, but leave spots everywhere else.
Step 3. Set the area of the jersey in a clean steel or ceramic bowl of water and let the area you just worked soak for a couple of hours.
Step 4. When the couple of hours are up more soap in the area and repeat the hand rubbing motion to work any stain still there. Do not use a toothbrush or any instrument for any step! You will fatigue the fibres and it will look like your cat was working the area. That's why your grandma when using the old wash board would scrub clothes against each other. Wet clothing fibres are weakend and could easily stretch or fray.
Step 6. Throw in delicate cold wash to wash out the soap.
Step 7. Do not dry in dryer! Hang out in the sun. This is the most important step. The UVA and UVB is a natural bleaching agent that will take out the stain. As long as you never set the stain in a dryer process you can bleach the stain out slowly in the sun.
If you don't believe in this process, it's the one used in both Buckingham Palace and the White House on their immaculate white dinner table cloths. On valuable high thread count cloth they don't use chemicals or heat to clean stains.
IMPORTANT! At no time in the process or before or after do not use heat in the cleaning process. No hot water washes, no hot dryers. If you adhere to this you will not set the stain ever and it has a chance to release or bleach away.
It will take time, but patience is the key to natural stain removal.
