First and foremost I apologize if this has already been posted. Second, I know this doesn't belong in the fan zone but I know many people wondered why we didn't sign this guy, the following explains it pretty well.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Darren Sharper had limited market value as a free agent due to offseason microfracture surgery.
This explains quite a bit, and means that Sharper is no sure thing to be ready for Opening Day. The procedure, believed to have taken place in early March, was originally announced as an arthroscopic surgery -- much less serious than microfracture. A 34-year-old defensive back coming off this operation figures to lose at least some range. The Saints may need to give 2009 first-round pick Malcolm Jenkins reps at free safety, after all. Good job staying away from this guy, that procedure is no joke..
