Report: Steelers begin actively shopping Ben
Posted by Mike Florio on April 21, 2010 11:56 AM ET
Though we've seen the reports suggesting that the Steelers won't trade quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, we haven't believed them. The Pittsburgh media has opened the door far too wide, and the team has done nothing to slam it shut.

Recently, a theory had emerged that the Steelers were choosing not to nip the buzz in the bud in order to ensure that Roethlisberger spends a week or so in fear of being exiled out of Pittsburgh, something that actually may be in his best long- and short-term interests.

If it's a ruse, it's a damn convincing one.

A day after Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Steelers are receiving trade feelers from other teams, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Steelers are contacting teams in the top ten of the draft regarding a possible trade.

Per Schefter, at least one team is considering the possibility of sending the top-ten selection to the Steelers for Roethlisberger.

As explained in a PFTV segment we'll be posting soon (actually, in two of them), there's a team in the top ten that should be more than willing to make the swap.

NFL Network says also that the commissioner will suspend Big Ben 4 to 6 games.

Per Schefter they are trying to move him to a top 10 team.

So basically that means Oakland or Buffalo.

If I were the Raiders, I would probably think about it, even if he is going to be suspended for at least a quarter of the season.

Isn't there a lot of bad blood between Davis/Raiders and the the Rooneys/Steelers?

Hard to imagine them doing business together.

Oakland, Cleveland, Seattle, St Louis, and Buffalo would be my guess if he were traded.

If i were Mike Holmgren or Pete Carroll, i'd jump on that in a heartbeat. I think seattle has two picks anyway and both have vetertan QBs who can take over until Big Ben is ready to come back.

This should come down to 2 teams: Oakland and Buffalo.
Oakland sits at 8 and has a horrid draft history. They love big arms and bad boys.

Buffalo is sitting at 9 and has a cold weather, boring city. Big Ben would have to fight through 5 layers of clothing to whip lil ben out up there. Buffalo loves any attention they can get.

Seattle: 2 picks and the first is high enough to get a QB. They have some solid young talent and are building but are not a ready-made playoff team with Ben. Plus they lose a lot of what Ben does well playing in that stadium.

Cleveland: Holmgren runs a WCO and wants a different breed of QB. CLE has enough negativity without a bathroom stall raper around.

Oakland really doesn't have anything to give. It would take at least two No. 1s for Big Rapelisberger, but the Patriots own the Raiders No. 1 for 2011.

If you were in the hunt for a QB, I don't know why any team wouldn't throw a 1st out there.

Commander 1 has go to be in motion with this news.

The 49ers should give up #13 for him. The QB position is singlehandedly holding them back from contending and they would still have the #17 pick to get a left tackle or cornerback. People talk about the PR hit, but that franchise has been so awful for so long that those fans would welcome him with open arms.
