SI.com's Hot Clicks breaks the news this morning that The Who will be performing during halftime of Super Bowl XLIV. There was some earlier talk of Bon Jovi playing the gig, but I guess that didn't work out.

Opinions will vary, as they always do. Optimistically, I do believe that The Who has some songs that will make for a fun halftime show -- "Baba O'Riley", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Who Are You", and "The Seeker", to throw out a few. I'm also assured by Jamie Mottram, who's seen them perform live recently, that The Who can "still bring it."

Myself, I've accepted that the Super Bowl Halftime show just isn't aimed at entertaining me. Or anyone under the age of 40, for that matter. It's aimed at entertaining (or at least not offending), the slightly older, extremely mainstream audience that the biggest television event of the year draws. Four of the last five Super Bowl Halftime acts have been white males in their late '50s or older.

I'm cool with it, but I'm anxious to get everyone else's thoughts. Would you rather have someone a little more current, or are you cool with Roger Goodell only picking bands that are represented in his personal CD collection?

I'm over forty and I hate all the recent Halftime shows, except for maybe Prince (or whatever he's called today).

I'm really lucky! I was in the Super Bowl XX's Halftime show, one of the coolest things I've ever been a part of! Game sucked.

Me hopes Lady Ga Ga and Amy Whinehouse are the acts.

Man, that would rule.

What about NKOTB? They're due for a half time show, special gust star Marky Mark would join.

Why not offer some up and coming bands/singers with a chance to go out and perform? Like a short act for each singer/band so that you can fit more in. These other bands have all the limelight already or have already been exposed to it. Why not get some lesser knowns some exposure and make it interesting by letting us listen to something we haven't heard before.

Not a fan of the halftime show but when Prince did it? He tore the house down. That was the first halftime show I wish I was actually there. I Just can't relate bands like Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen.

Because the NFL doesn't benefit off doing something like that. They bring groups like Prince and Bruce Springsteen so they can bring some casual fans to the Super Bowl. NFL fans are already going to tune in. They go for the casual fans and bringing indie bands with no fanbase sort of defeats the purpose of what the NFL tries to do with these halftime shows.

Prince absolutely rocked... say what you want about him, but the man can play a guitar

I love The Who, but I'm a little tired of geriatric rockers as the halftime show. I understand going the safe, popular rock route, but can't it be someone more current or at least less past their prime. I have to imagine that bands like Pearl Jam or The Black Crowes would have enough appeal to leave most people satisfied. Kings of Leon, Wolfmother, Coldplay all seem to make more sense too.

I would have preferred Kiss, but I am a little biased.:D

A performance from The Who without John Entwistle just wouldn't seem right.

New Rule: If you put out your first album before there was a Superbowl, you do not qualify for the halftime show.

Jeez...who's next, The Kinks???

They should have booked Alice in Chains, Metallica, Kiss, Foo Fighters...hell, maybe even AC/DC.
