The way salaries are going higher and higher that doesn't surprise me. That averages out to $16 mil a year and in 8-10 years that may be a bargain.

Yea salaries are totally out of control.
However, if salaries are comparable anytime soon and he is still playing at a high level then he will hold out again for more money.

I would never want dallas paying that much for a CB. The difference between Revis and TNew or isnt so great that its worth paying that much of a premium. Especially over the long term where players can go from great to average in a year. Look at Tomlinson. All pro to has been in 1 season.

I hope the Jets dont cave to this guys demands.

Considering what you'd have to give up to have that? It sounds awful.

No cornerback is worth that much, I don't care if he is a "shutdown" cornerback. NFL offenses are too spread out now, and just taking away the primary option doesn't really hold them back. Look at the AFC Title game ... Revis "shutdown" Reggie Wayne by holding him to 3/55, and Manning still threw for 360 yards and put 30 up on the board by going to Garcon, Collie and Clark. You're better off allocating that money to pass rushers and ensuring you're starting 11 and nicklebacks are solid from top to bottom with no weak links.

This is a matter of fact. It's such a joke when people say a guy shuts down half the field. He might shut down one receiver at a time, but unless his team has an insane pass rush and other good DBs, they're not going to be a dominant defense anyway.

The reason he's demanding this crazy 10 year deal is because he knows he'll be able to get a MASSIVE signing bonus on a 10 year deal, with all the base salaries backload to the later years, and then he'll just restructure in 4 or 5 years and pretend he's doing the Jets a favor. His agent is smart to try to demand this, but I hope they don't pay him that much.

Blame it on his coach for talking about how he's the best player of all time after every game last year in his press conferences.

If any team actually signs this guy to a ten year deal, nevermind the ridiculous kind of deal hes asking for then they deserve whatever they get.

here is the way i see it, deion>revis. deion got 7 years 35 million in '94 standard inflation rate for his play then, now would only be 7.14 million. what this guy is asking for is insane

Either he gets it or the Jets are missing out on the best defensive back in the league, so it's their loss. He needs to take a pay cut and come to Big D. Sign him Jerry. =D

He is looking to get what the CB from the Raiders (Amasauagh-spelling) received which was outrageous at 15 mil. a year

That would make sense except for the fact that the salary cap has increased way more than what standard inflation would say. It was $35 million or so in 1994, and is now what $125 mil?

It would be stupid for Revis to take a 10 year contract nor would he honor it.

5 years from now--heck, 3 year from now--the market rate will be much higher and he'll feel underpaid.

If I was a top NFL player, I wouldn't want anything longer than a 4 year contract because I would want the ability to renegotiate every 4 years and get that sweet bonus and guaranteed money.
