Call it overreaction if you like, but the RT candidates don't impress me a bit. Vollers is suited to be a backup, I think Allen should stay at guard, Rogers can't stay on the field and Tucker needs to be beaten with a sock full of quarters.

Pettitti might show something in time, but I thought he struggled a bit last night as well.

Scott Gragg - 6'8", 315 - 11 year veteran - Durable.

Assets: A tough, straight-line blocker. Good size and strength. Gets good position and mirrors especially well. Knows how to get away with a little holding. Hustles and makes blocks on the second level.

Flaws: Very stiff and slow. Will struggle against pure speed.

Marcus Spears - 6'4", 320 - 12 year veteran

He comes off the ball quickly with good leverage and is physical at the point of attack. He has good initial pop and when he is locked on, he rarely loses a battle. He is an excellent drive blocker and can wear down defenders over the course of the game. He does an excellent job of finishing blocks and will engulf undersized defenders at the point of attack. He does not possess quick feet, lacks ideal lateral mobility and his technique is sloppy. As a tackle he struggles with quick edge rushers and inside penetrators and has a tendency to be a waist bender. He will lunge at defenders and doesn't always play with great balance. He is not patient and would benefit from sitting back in his stance.

Ross Verba - 6'4", 305 - 9 year veteran
He is a little short for an OT and he does not have long arms, but makes up for some of that by being an above average athlete. He shows good foot quickness. He can short set and get good position. He is a solid technician - plays with solid balance and body control. He is keeps good position - doesn't take fakes on double rush moves. He is a good competitor, but not the tough, physical nasty player he tries to portray himself as. He is an effective run blocker in space. He flashes to want to get downfield and make blocks. He shows solid initial, foot and lateral quickness. He is not very big - kind of manufactured and topped out weight/size wise. Can get in trouble at times giving up his outside edge and he does not have the arm length to consistently take the DE wide around the QB.

Junk's Flaws for Verba - He is from Iowa.

Chris Terry - 6'5", 295 - 6 year veteran
Assets Very good overall athlete with quick feet. Above-average pass blocker. Hard worker and vocal leader. Has stretches where he flashes Pro Bowl ability.
Flaws Doesn't always get proper leverage and can get pushed around when his technique falters. Not an overpowering run blocker.

Anybody else out there?

I thought Pettitti did okay for a rookie going against a good veteran DE. He did a lot better than the Arizona announcers thought.

I think Pettiti will improve and become our starter at RT.

I think bringing in another RT is a good idea. Mainly, due to the injury of Rogers and the inpetitude of Tucker.

I think it's too early to make any judgement on Pettiti. He was thrust into the starting Lineup at RT after starting camp as a backup to Adams at LT. Couple that with his ankle injury, and you have last night's outcome.

I'd like to see what he can do against Seattle. He definitely has all the tools you want in a RT.

I think Verba and Spears are the most likely of the available people.

I think we cut Tucker, leave LA at LG, go with Vollers and Petitti for now, watch the waiver wire (especially the last cuts) and pick up the most solid guy before the season starts.

I certainly hope so.

But whatever happened to to the talk of Marco Rivera making our right tackle better, no matter who it was?

From what I saw, Marco did not look all that sharp himself.

That take has been amended.

Rivera will only be counted on to bail center and rt out when he faces Daleroy Stewarts, not Docketts or Davises.

yall can sratch Verba out unless you want us to give him 35 million.

Green Bay has one chance in hell to be successful and that's to protect Brett Farve at all cost and they didn't keep Rivera. Makes you wonder.

Verba intrigues me because his problems seem to be mostly character issues, and Parcells has a great character reference right in his lockerroom with Marco Rivera. Marco played with Vera for five years.

They didn't keep Wahle either, and there's no doubt Wahle is a great player. The fact is Green Bay didn't have the cap room to keep either of them.

yump. has nothing to do with Rivera just losing it all of a sudden.

Speaking as a long time Buffalo fan, who shares an office with a Pats fan - you guys are in for a long season if the Cowboys can't figure that one out. Drew needs a cement wall in front of him on every down.

Agreed, Rivera will help but he can't block two guys...

Junk, great analysis of the situation...

Cut Tucker and bring in Scott Gragg. we may be able to get him for the vet minimum and less than a 1 mil bonus. At the very least he's a high character guy, who would be solid insurance. And Parcells could keep his vollers as his swing man.

That is kind of my thinking as well. Not to mention he has some experience he could hopefully pass on to a guy like Pettiti.

Goes to show you how little information we REALLY have.
Just last week when Rogers was playing well, the message we were getting was that Tucker was supposed to be complete garbage. Overweight, arrogant and under-achieving.
Now that Rogers has been exposed, Tucker is on his weight, improved with his mental errors and has potential again.

Ever feel like Bill is manipulating all of us, like he does with all his players.
