The Hall of Fame 2B died at the age of 77. Cause of death was a nerve disease, a form of neuropathy.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Oh man, this is a drag. Joe Morgan was a great player. Started in Houston with the Colt 45s I think. I really hate to see this news.

IMO the greatest 2nd baseman of all time.

Didn't hit for a great average, but took a ton of walks, had power in an era where 2nd baseman didn't hit homeruns and a top-flight basestealer... Oh and he was a phenomenal defensive player.

His intelligence on the field was vastly underrated. Morgan's acquisition put the Big Red Machine over the top. He does not get the credit and recognition that he deserves as being a phenomenal all around player. I'm not sure that he was a greater player than Eddie Collins or perhaps even Roberto Alomar, but he's definitely in the conversation.

I did have a chance to meet and work with Morgan back in 1992, and I honestly cannot say that it was a positive experience, but in no way does that diminish his greatness. RIP.

Yeah, on the field vs. off the field can be much different. We see that all the time with sport figures and other celebrities.
