Denise Nickerson, who played Violet Beauregarde, in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory passed away on July 10. She had a stroke last year and her health hadn't recovered. According to reports, she ingested medications while her daughter and son-in-law were out of the house. She was rushed to hospital, with respiratory failure, developed pneumonia, was on a respirator, then taken off and passed away yesterday.
Nickerson had been a prominent child actor, appearing in Dark Shadows, The Brady Bunch, Search for Tomorrow, and The Electric Company. In the 70s, she lost out on the Exorcist to Linda Blair. She left acting at the end of the 70s, though was involved in interviews and commentary for the Wonka dvds and made appearances at conventions and autograph shows.
She and Julie Dawn Cole, who played Veruca Salt were the only child actors of the cast to have extensive credits, though Paris Themmen, who played Mike TV, did acting and worked the production side, for a time.
