Is he someone we should go after? Weighs in at 328. So he is bigger then Ferguson. Has he ever played NT? Only 29.

He played DT in the 4-3 for the Titans. And DE in the 3-4 for the Texans.

He took a big deal with the Texans and they released him when they decided to go back to the 4-3.

Depending on cost, he may be an option, but he's prolly looking for a slightly better chance of seeing the field if Fergie is starting...and I don't know that he'll just be signed for the minimum.

Comment:
Smith has good size, strength and versatile. He can play end or tackle and has played in 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. He is hard-nosed, durable and experienced. He is tough and competitive. He has good play recognition and understands his assignments. He can lock out and control the point of attack against the run. He can penetrate and is an active attacking upfield gaps. He can move laterally down the line and get over trash in the box. He is best suited to playing in a confined area against the run but shows good effort in pursuit. He can create a pass-rush surge to push the inside pocket. But Smith lacks ideal quickness and closing speed. He is upright off the ball and needs to play with better pad level at the point of contact. He has limited pass-rush countermoves and doesn't finish well. He lacks good lateral quickness off stunts to get on the edge of linemen.

I thought he'd be a good addition when he was a FA before he signed with Houston.

He'd be a good fit in a 4-3 scheme as a one gap tackle.

I don't think he'd be a good fit as a 3-4 NT.

I think he'd be a good fit in a 3-4 since we moving from a 2 gap to a 1 gap defense under Phillips.

I've always liked Robaire -- he's a solid player. Also, I freaking love the spelling of his name -- I've got a French Canadian friend named Robert (pronounced Roh-bare) - I give him endless crap about changing his spelling.

Smith would be good, but he is 29 already....I would like a young backup for Fergy.....but Ill take Smith.

Fergy can play 2 plays, Smith goes 2 plays.....unless there is a 3 and out. Fergy starts every defensive series and plays the first two plays. Smith would then play the next two and rotate them in and out to keep them fresh throughout the game and the season.

just signed with the Browns
Maybe a little selfish, but it'll be nice when Crennel is fired there is one less 3-4 in the world to compete with for players.

With a name like that, Jerra is sure to go for him.

dude you realize your choice is based on "male bonding?"

i think robaire can eventually develop into a nt but he's not quite there yet. if he came reasonably it would develop into a serious tandem with fergy...:starspin
