Roethlisberger case goes to the D.A.
Posted by Mike Florio on April 7, 2010 1:33 PM ET
More than a month after the alleged incident, police in Milledgeville, Georgia have completed their investigation.

According to the Associated Press, the case has been referred to District Attorney Fred Bright. Bright will eventually decide based on the investigation whether to present the matter to a grand jury.

But while it's widely believed that a grand jury can be persuaded to indict a ham sandwich, the question that Bright needs to ask himself is whether he thinks he can get a conviction -- and whether he has the desire to face a Dream Team-style defense effort led by attorney Ed Garland.

An indictment of Roethlisberger, even if not followed by a conviction, will likely wreak havoc on his pro football career. He could be suspended indefinitely pending resolution of the case, just as Mike Vick was suspended indefinitely upon indictment in 2007.

Well, I'm rooting for an indictment.

The sexual assault investigation of Ben Roethlisberger has been finalized by the Milledgeville (GA) police department.

The case has been forwarded to the district attorney's office, which will decide whether to pursue further investigation and if formal charges should be filed. Police never did interview Roethlisberger a second time. We're betting he'll avoid criminal prosecution, and any discipline from the league.

Probably be the usual blowout loss. You get as mush justice as you can afford in this country. Only Mike Tyson lost in this situation because he used a tax attorney when he needed a defense attorney.

If you have money you pretty much get off. Look at the OJ case in 94.

Those were federal prosecutions. I'm talking the best defense money can buy versus local DA. Usually a total mismatch.

That has as much to do with who you know as local judges as well. Back water politics at it's finest.

If he's guilty may justice be served, if he's innocent may he be absolved.

He's acting guilty.

I would be fully cooperative being that this accusation has happened before and that I have a big reputation on the line.

It doesn't look like he's trying to salvage anything. It looks like he's trying to stay out of jail.

If there is DNA evidence and trauma then indict him, but however much I dislike the guy and think hes an overrated *****, if he didn't do it then the woman in question needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for making false reports.

False rape accusations are almost as bad as rape and can be worse depending.

You're right, but it looks like he's got a lot to hide.

I'm not....if there's no case don't try it.

I think there is plenty of case.

At the very least there are plenty of questions that need answering.

This story has far too many angles working and I don't even know what is rumor or what is true.

The tapes were recorded over?

Police officers with Rape-o tried to slide some things through without Ben being named.

Bar owner reported a friend of the accuser approaching him about her friend being in the bathroom and the door blocked by one of Ben's crew.

I seriously don't know where reality ends and fantasy has started in this case. I think Ben is in a world of ****.

I also think his comment about not even having sex with her will probably be something that bites him in the ***. All that has to be proven is intercourse and he's done.

This case is going to get interesting.

If he goes to trial, I would assume he gets the indefinite leave to get his troubles in order.

Ben thought he was above the law. I know what he did. When you get that powerful you think you can have what you want. He messed up this time.

It's an act of God he's not a Cowboy. There would be helicopters over his house 24/7.

I would still hate to be him. I know he did it.
