Witten says Romo lobbying to play
IRVING - Tony Romo's best friend on the team says the quarterback is doing some intense lobbying to play Sunday against St. Louis.
"Tony has thrown the ball well," tight end Jason Witten said this morning in the locker room. "He's throwing hard...He's trying to encourage all of them. I see him holding court over there with coach Phillips and Mr. Jones. He just has to get comfortable with it, and we'll see."
It, of course, if Romo's broken right pinkie finger. Romo wants to play despite the possibility of him risking further injury that could force him to miss more games or even the remainder of the season.
"Tony is smart," Witten said. "He is going to make the right decision. He is going to do what is best for him. At some point in time, he's going to have to get some timing and throws out there to do it. But I think for all of us, we have to go and prepare with Brad (Johnson) being the guy right now. If Tony is able to do it, then obviously that is encouraging."
For whatever it's worth, linebacker Bradie James says it won't be Romo under center Sunday.
"We know who's going to start. It's going to be Brad," James said.
(How has his throws looked)
Tony has thrown the ball well. He’s done a good job. He’s throwing hard. I mean, he hasn’t thrown in practice or anything, but he’s been tossing them on the side a little bit. He’s trying to encourage all of them. I see him over holding court over their with coach Phillips and Mr. Jones. He just has to get comfortable with it, and we’ll see.
