Here are a few franchise season records at the QB position Romo is set to break this year, at his current pace (essentially, Danny White's 1983 season):

COMPLETIONS
Record: 334 - Danny White (1983)
Current Pace: 338

ATTEMPTS
Record: 533 - Danny White (1983)
Current Pace: 519

YARDS
Record: 3,980 - Danny White (1983)
Current Pace: 4,542

TOUCHDOWNS
Record: 29 - Danny White (1983)
Current Pace: 41

QB RATING
Record: 104.8 - Roger Staubach (1971) *
Current Pace: 103.3

* Aikman 2nd with 99.0 rating in 1993.

I would call that Obliterating the TD record.:D

:D No joke.

If we end up wrapping up the division and/or a bye week by season's end, I doubt Romo breaks the Attempts or Completions record. But he will have the TD and Yards records with several games to spare. Book it!

And barring another Buffalo-like meltdown (though, who was that who threw 6 INTs last night?) he should finish with the highest QB rating for a Cowboys QB.

Great post.

Notice how Staubach had 211 attempts the year he set the franchise high passer rating...Romo already has 292 attempts.

Very informative, MM. Anyone know what the Dallas record is for points? (And their current pace?)

No disrespect to Romo or his accomplishments, because I thank the heavens for dropping him Big D, but Staubach got that rating in an era where the DBs could legally mug the Wide Receivers and there were little to no rules to protect the QB like there is today. That type of rating from that era is one of the most eye popping stats I have ever seen.

Thanks. I had a hard time digging up the QB rating. You bring up a good point regarding Staubach's attempts - don't you have to have at least 300 attempts be awarded the top rated QB?

Thanks. Dang, we're gonna blow that record up real good. I can only imagine if Terry Glenn was around...

There was an article posted on this board a few weeks ago about how the QB rating system has become very outdated. When it was implemented in the 70s only guys like Staubach and Tarkenton would have ratings in the 90s, let alone the 100s. Now you have 10 guys with 100+ QB ratings, thanks to a more pass-happy league. It's hard enough to compare stats from players from those different eras, and the QB rating doesn't help.

It's something like 12 or 13 attempts per game over the season.

It's not a full-season rating, though. Staubach split time with Morton, about 60/40.

FYI - Here is the formula for QB rating as listed in Star Mag.

Okay, if you're ready, here's the formula. Be careful, there are 196 characters and they must be typed perfectly into Microsoft Excel without any spaces.

=(ROUND(((((MAX(MIN(2.375,(((B1*100)/A1)-30)*(0.05)),0))+(MAX(MIN(2.375,(D1*100)/A1)*(0.2)),0))+(MAX(MIN(2.375,(((E1*100)/A1)-9.5)*(-.025)),0))+(MAX (MIN(2.375,((C1/A1)-3)*(0.25)),0))) *100)/6),1))

"A1" is attempts, "B1" is completions, "C1" is gross passing yards, "D1" is touchdowns, and "E1" is interceptions.
