Are the Rangers this good BECAUSE of him or in spite of him?

He's a great offensive manager (when to hit and run, when to steal, batting order changes, etc.) but his bullpen and pitching lineup decisions, especially in the playoffs, are puzzling at times. Overall I'd put him in the top 10 among managers.

Thanks slant..I was just wondering what others thought because I know we have basically an all star lineup.

I don't think he's as good as Johnny Oates was, but MUCH better than Buck Showalter.

I agree, Washington is a pretty good situational manager. He can create runs using small ball and not just lean on the long ball to score. He is really good at turning one or two run innings into big scoring innings. I think he's a pretty good Manager.

He's definitely not a great on-field, xs and os manager. (30yard would be the only person alive who thinks he's better than Buck Showalter in that area.)

But that's more than made up for by his great personality and energy that the players pick up on. They love the guy and love playing for him. And just one interview and you can see why. He's simply a unique, genuine, incredibly likable person who lives for the game.

He's a great motivator, but as far as X's and O's he sucks. Overall he's an average coach.
How do you know, frontrunner? Aren't you a Yankees fan too?:D

I'm a Yankees fan. I'm a Lakers fan too. I'm also a Cowboy fan. If you want to say we are frontrunners, then that's cool. What does that have to do with the discussion? Am I missing something?

he might not be the best manager, but he is the perfect manager for this team, IMO
