Do rookies get some sort of allowance during the summer while they wait on a contract and salary?

you would think the team would give them room and board, thats a pretty good question

I would think the agents in most case will front money to their clients until they get a contract worked out.

I think I read somewhere (but don't beat on it) that we allowed give the rookies a small stipend during team activities like OTAs, minicamp & to lesser extent in TC. But also believe the agents provide some assistance until the players get signed.

Why? Seems like all of them had it worked out before. What's another few months?

Well they were most likely on schlorships for college, and or had family supporting them during college.

Now there family doesn't have the money to just up and move to whatever city there drafted in, and so the players are most likely in need of money, since there job hasn't paid them yet

Here's an option. Get a freaking credit card.

I believe they do get stipend during that time, at least when they are working out with the team. Parcells alluded to this in his book.
