Great win. Defense was dominant as I predicted. We are deep, fast and talented.

We have a superbowl caliber roster.

How will it look moving forward?

We had 3 roster locks that were hurt or not ready to play tonight.
Smith
Wilson
Lewis

They were inactive for the obvious.

RoJo is suspended. But a decision will need to be made there as well.

Hoffman was activated off the practice squad. He's clearly being evaluated against Harlow. Come week 7, one of them will be on the active 53.

So that's 4 spots that will need to be accounted for.

CJ Goodwin. Was elevated. And he actually played some corner in mop up duty. He may be in competition with a guy like Noah I. But CJ only has 2 more call ups left. Let's assume they like him enough to keep him on the 53.

That's now 5 spots. Maybe 6 if they still want to keep RoJo.

So who goes? Who becomes future inactives?

Let's start with RoJo. Pollard looked good. Dowdle looked good in limited action. Luepke was on special teams and saw some action at FB. Vaughn was non existent. No special teams. No special packages. Turpin took those looks and did very well. If RoJo is kept, someone goes. We will see after next week what happens there. Rico and Luepke both have special teams ability. RoJo is, in my opinion, the best RB2 option.

Next up is CJ Goodwin. As said before, he actually got looks as a CB tonight. Noah didn't. Could be we try and stash Wright, Scott or Noah on the PS. After the third game, either CJ is a permanent member of the PS or one of the above is.

We will play out the backup Center spot for a while. Best guess is that we will continue to move Hoffman up for the next two weeks. Then he will be stuck on the PS while we bring up Harlow for 3 weeks. After which, one will make the 53. Or someone from outside. But we will have a 9th Olineman come week 7. Who gets cut when that happens? My guess would be Fehoko. Gholsten looked good tonight.

Now on to the inactives for tonight. Let's say Smith,Wilson and Lewis are held out for 2 more weeks each. When they come back, who sits? Probably Bass. Probably Thomas. Even though he looked good tonight. I'd guess Scott, if he's still on the roster at that point. Or Noah.

Bottom line is that we will have some interesting roster moves coming up. Having Lance as QB3 means we will be cutting someone who can actually contribute this year. Holding roster spots for players that offer nothing is a luxury.

We are as close to a superbowl roster as I've seen since the early 90s. This defense will dominate teams, as we saw tonight, on the road. If Dak plays within the system and rides this defense, we have as good of a chance to be in the big game as anyone.

I hope we don't get cute with the roster. Don't mess with this defense. Make sure every roster spot contributes. If we do that, we win. It's that simple.

They don't have to elevate any PS players if they don't want or need to. So really only 1 or 2 spots to do something with, and they don't even have to do that.
Just a matter of what player will be a healthy scratch for each game. Depends upon match ups.

This will not be popular, but from what little Deuce did last night, allow Ronald Jones to have his spot and see what he can do.
Yes I went there, it is my opinion after a rain soaked night, as they expected runs from him that late in the game. So key was on stopping Deuce.
The fact Turpin got carries from the backfield says a lot for now.

Keeping Lance is a no brainer. That 53 guy is not going to be a huge difference maker. And would be inactive as well. And no player has been poached yet from our PS to say ... he cost us a player.
Fans need to get over that myth.

Goodwin barring injury isn’t going anywhere. They’ll make a spot for him when they need to.

Goodwin and backup Center are the two mostly givens that will require roster cuts at some point.

RoJo, if retained, would be the third.

And the inactive list will be much different when Smith,Wilson and Lewis are all healthy.

I brought up Lance because, in my opinion, this was not the year to add a third QB. He contributes nothing and takes up a roster spot. If he ends up being a probowler at some point, then it's a genius move.

Agree about Vaughn. Another waste of a roster spot. If not for garbage time in a blow out, he would not have played a single snap. Turpin is what Duece hopes to be. But we don't need two of them. And Turpin isn't going anywhere.
