to save money, they are going to need low-cost players in these positions:
1. wr - cobb, austin are free agents assuming they resign cooper
- so smith and wilson should make the 53 while noah is on pup, and stash johnson on development squad
6 on initial 53 - cooper, gallup, cobb, austin, smith, wilson
2. lb - thomas and lee are free agents
6 on initial 53 - philips makes 53 along with gifford to be stashed on ir after making 53
jaylon, lve, lee, gifford, philips, thomas
3. cb - bjones and brown are fa that they may lack $ to sign
7 on inital 53 - jones, chido, jordan, brown, goodwin, olumba, jackson
4. te - witten probably retire
- probably stash mcelroy on ir
3 on initial 53 - witten, jarwin, schultz
5. dl - hyder, quinn, collins and covington are free agents.
try to stash jelk on development squad on week 3 when quinn returns.

offense - 23
qb - 2 (dak, rush)
rb - 2 (have rb3 on development squad)
fb - 1 (olawale)
ol - 9 (smith, williams, tfred, martin, collins, fleming, looney, mcgovern, redmond or su'a filo)
te - 3 (witten, jarwin, schultz)
wr - 6 (cooper, gallup, cobb, austin, smith, wilson)

defense - 27
dl - 10 - try to sneak jelk on development squad after quinn returns on week 3 (dlaw, woods, collins, crawford, taco, hill, hyder, jackson, covington, jelk->quinn)
lb - 6 - resign march or covington or hall after putting gifford on IR (jaylon, lve, lee, thomas, philips, gifford->covington/march)
cb - 7 (jones, chido, jordan, brown, goodwin, olumba, jackson)
s - 4 (woods, GOAT, wilson, thompson/frazier)

oh, forgot about guard and ot
looney and collins are free agents.
we got mcgovern for guard and can shift cwilliams to ot
then there is zero depth for c/g
suspect c/g could be a 3rd round pick for 2020.

- Big year for Awuzie and Brown and Lewis. If those three play well, I suspect Jones might be gone.

- I think Lee might not be long for this world unless he takes a really cheap contract. Frankly, I might want to keep Thomas over Lee. Thomas can play special teams and is younger.

- Cobb might not be too expensive to bring back at WR.

- Covington is probably a one and done type. Will be interesting to see what Hyder does. I could see a scenario where if he plays well and is fairly cheap, they finally cut Crawford for Hyder. I think Quinn might depend on Gregory (and Taco). If one or both play really well, Quinn might be gone. If Quinn has a big year, he's going to want to get paid and we won't pay him IMO.

i am glad gregory will not return until next year.
we get his cheap contract when we have plenty of depth this year.

if hyder gets 8 sacks, he is going to get $15m/year - way way gone
if he is that good and we have enough depth, i would be very tempted to trade him

i suspect covington is 1 and done also, but we will need a 1tech then

collins is big question if he stays healthy

i see our draft needs as dt, s, cb, lb unless something happens to resigning the qb, wr and rb.
it is horrible that draft happens after FA.

Have him show up for a full offseason so that he's ready to play week one. Having had to spend on Quinn because Gregory wasn't available, I'd rather have Armstrong get the developmental snaps than Gregory be playing himself into football shape and form.

This is a little confusing. You’re predicting the final 53 based on keeping young guys to replace future FAs? 2020 FAs will have no bearing on this roster cutdown. You’ll bring in FAs next year as every year and a ton of newly drafted guys. Impossible to predict that. I guarantee they’ll hold onto the 53 best or most useful football players, regardless of cap considerations or future FA.

7 CBs? C’mon man.

8m is cheap for a starting rde
i am glad we got quinn at that price
may not be someone that cheap with such a low draft pick next year

so u dont think the front office prepares for free agency at least 1 year before?
you think it is possible to solve all your problem with cheap free agents like they have been getting?
and they hate getting free agents so you dont think they will do as much as they can to avoid it?

what is wrong with 7cbs?
they have gone 7 wrs before.

the way they would prepare they would prepare is to get players that are under contract to cover for the upcoming free agents.

they cannot count of what they can draft next year. they got to get the players and develop them a year or two earlier.

I don’t think they cut worthy 53-man players to make room for a guy who otherwise would have never made it because someone may or may not sign somewhere else 8 months from now; no.

which player did i pick that is clearly not 53 worthy
they have more than 53 players that are 53 worthy

You’re Keeping only 2 RBs. Who do you spell Zeke with if Pollard pulls a hammy? The full back? You’re willing to throw away plays just so you can keep a 7th cornerback who’ll never see the field?

do u see a rb worth protecting
if the rbs are not worth protecting, you can finesse an additional spot this way.
weber?
chunn?
are there not more rbs that will be released that are more talented?
if zeke sits out, they could pick up one of those if they dont trade for one.

the fb is under a separate category and kept
u may want to read more carefully.

Don’t worry, I read it all. I would compare it to Swahili. Just because We read it, doesn’t mean anyone’s gonna understand it. But you speak the language of this thread, so we need you to decipher....

Let me ask it a different way. Off the top of your head, have you ever known a team to carry only 2 RBs on their 53?

All in on 2019, not thinking much about 2020 nfl season, but obviously a lot of decisions. I would like to extend Cooper first, then see if you can get modest deals worked out with players like M Collins and Anthony Brown during the season if they're playing well and before they get too pricey. For Dak and Jones they are already pricey so we should play it out knowing their contract value won't dramatically change in the off-season from the top of the market.

It's a lot to pay Jones top dollar for 4 career ints. For Prescott the franchise tag is cheaper and lower risk than paying him 35 million a year. Whether if he actually plays on the franchise tag is unknown, but that is more money than he's ever seen.

Gregory would have been a lot cheaper. But, without Gregory, Quinn looks like a good pickup. He was probably insurance against not signing Lawrence too.
