I became a Cowboys fan in ’79 watching the SB with my grandpa. He was a massive Bengals fan and, naturally, hated the Steelers. He was pulling for the Cowboys. I followed suit since grandpa always knew best. Landry was mostly past his prime by then. The 3 NFC championship losses in the early 80’s was as close as I got to witness Landry with the Cowboys as a champion. I don’t wish I were older, but I do feel I missed out greatly in not having seen those 70’s SB victories.

interesting that he said he and schram found out they were fired watching tv, and when they were called in schram was in a corner standing
with no chair for him.
I wonder if this was part of the deal jerry made with bum bright, or does it show jerrys lack of class in the dealing with those 2?

No one has ever said, why bum hated landry and possibly schram, anyone have info on that?

Interesting interviews. Surprised he said winning Super Bowls didn’t motivate him.

One of the most insightful relevations Landry talked about was how he as a Head Coach\the Cowboys \ the NFL as whole - were unaware or not knowlegable enough about players' addiction to drugs - thus were incapable and ill-equipped to address the problems that arose among a number of athletes.

Wasn't it the scenario that Bright didn't want to be the guy that fired Landry; he requested Schramm to do it...but Tex replied no.
Thus the fallout from the franchise sale to Jones was that the new owner accepted the task of getting rid of the longtime, fabled, and accomplished GM & HC.
If my thinking on that was what took place is wrong...CZers put forth what actually happened back then.

Glad I got a chance to interview Coach Landry before he passed.

well I dont know, but any time a team is sold, it is up to the new owner to decide on keeping or firing the current HC.
Most times they are let go, fired isnt really what happens.

So I dont know why bum would even feel the need to fire tom, or ask schram to do it.

In the interview with landry , he said that it was done with no class whatsoever, and landry felt that both him and schram were treated
in a very not classy way.
they heard about it on tv first lol, then at the official meeting there was no chair for schram and he had to stand in a corner.
That says a lot about jerry and how he operates.
