On any given play we can run to the left or we can run to the right and expect to have success. Our left side is getting all of the attention because it’s new with Smith and Peters but our right side is pretty darn good at run blocking as well with Steele and Martin. It was really fun to watch our run game on Monday. If the Cowboys stick to a run first offense and play action off of that, to go along with this defense, it could be an exciting season for us fans. Sit back and enjoy!

Its important to understand that in order for that to continue, the Oline has to continue to do the job they are doing. Little to do with the RB's, the OC, or the QB. Its about the line getting the push we need.

I'm really pleased with Smith's ability to get downfield. When we go to the outside on his side, he is chugging downfield and getting multiple blocks. The big man can move.

Agreed. He has turned into a fantastic pick when you combine his physical ability, work ethic, character and all at a major position of need late in the 1st round. When they do the hypothetical redrafts that they always do a few years later, he will go much higher than #24. In fact, he may be one of the first OL to get picked.

I think we are far stronger running left because Smith can pull, yes, but he is a spectacular fire-out direct blocker and Zach Martin is a better pulling blocker than Smith is. Throw in Peters, and I think we are nearly unstoppable running left. If Peters comes along it will be by far the best left side we have had since the 90s.

I dunno about that.. the Tyron Smith/Ron Leary duo was pretty damn good in 2014-2016. Who can forget that game where the Texans tried lining JJ Watt up over on Leary's side and Leary pancaked him multiple times and forced them to stop doing it.

Leary was a bully and huge reason for the team's rushing success during that period.

I agree, and when we lost Leary we had a helluva time replacing him.

It certainly seems that he could be heading that way. If he had not had the penalty issues, I don't think he would have made it to 24. The question was really about whether he could learn and was willing to work to fix those problems. You don't really know that no matter what his college coaches and he say until it's too late and you've drafted him. There were no doubts about his physical ability. Fortunately, it seems like he's a very eager learner.

That’s the recipe for success.

I think the success of the running game is also the result of getting some good blocking from Noah Brown and Ferguson. Even CeeDee has thrown some good blocks.

Noah has always been a very good blocker, & now we have a couple rookie tight ends who aren’t afraid to throw their nose in there and get a little dirty.

I honestly think losing Leary was one of the biggest mistakes this front office has made in some time. That begain the decline of the line and of course Tfreds battle with his disease and often injured Tyron. But the good thing is i think were starting to trend upward again

I noticed in some the scrimmages in TC that Steele was involved in several altercations. I couldn't help but think that it was a good sign that he is pissing people off and he has enough confidence that he is willing to go toe to toe and fight back. I feel he has made enough of a leap this year to forget Collins. Paired with HOF Martin there will be some running lanes on the right side.

The left side has been a revolving door at LG so hopefully Peters will add the veteran edge to settle the left side and let Smith focus on playing his position.

I would never say that watching Smith block that I had flashbacks of Larry Allen. A man amongst boys.

I would never say that.

Steele has done a solid job as well. I will take all sorts of heat, but I think Larry Allen was a little overrated. He had phenomenal speed. I remember once he ran down a Saint from behind who had intercepted a pass. He was terrifically strong. On any given play he could destroy a guy, as he did in the Super Bowl vs. the Steelers on an Emmitt run. Super solid pass blocker. But . . . for all that talent I never got the sense from him that I got from Nate Newton, who would just push guys back 5-6 yards on many plays. I know, you guys will hate this, but that's my recollection. HOWEVER, I will say this: if we had had a healthy Larry Allen at right tackle in the championship game vs. the 49ers, I don't think we lose. Aikman was constantly pressured because Allen was playing on one leg. Allen had more talent, but if I had to pick one guy to play LG (and I know Allen played almost every position except center), I'd take Newton. JMO
