I used https://www.pff.com/draft/nfl-mock-draft-simulator?ref=4931757c-8d15-4b23-bfff-b9b4bc034a7d as the simulator of choice. It's difficult copying the link here, so I'm going to literally type the players that I chose along with my logic for the picks. Right, let's get into it:

1. (27) RB Bijan Robinson Texas
6'0" 210 lbs

With Zeke likely being gone and the uncertainty of Pollard, I started off taking the best RB in the draft. I think that he'd give us a burst at RB that we need.

2. (58) OT Matthew Bergeron Syracuse
https://thedraftnetwork.com/sr-prospect/matthew-bergeron-81e82e59-91ab-44e7-8147-6e58f1c0ba3c/

6'5" 322

To shore up the RB investment and due to the uncertainty of Tyron Smith, I elected to take a tackle here. Specifically a very good one from Syracuse. Can't go wrong taking a tackle, and he'd help in both the running and passing game. Seems like an easy decision here to me....NEXT

3. (90) NT Jaquelin Roy LSU

6'4 315 lbs

I know I know, shocker. I'm taking a NT here. However, I think last season showed that we do need more NTs. So, I took a very good one from LSU, and one that specialises in the run game.

4 (129) WR Marvin Mims Oklahoma
5'11 179 lbs

We need WR, and Mims was the best option here. He's a slot WR, but nothing wrong going slot in the 4th round. The way that I see it is that he would give us the ability to work the middle of the field, and he could be a good possession WR. Having fellow Sooner Lamb and also Hilton would see Mims getting a lot of targets. I think he'd be a good fit.

5 (163) CB Julius Brents Kansas State
6'4" 202 lbs

Kelvin Joseph is our backup CB if Brown goes down again. Need I say more why I took Brents? NEXT

5 (170) DE Tyler Lacy Oklahoma State
https://247sports.com/player/tyler-lacy-46035493/

6'4" 238 lbs

Can never go wrong with more pass rush options.

5 (176) QB Clayton Tune Houston
6'3" 220 lbs

It's never a bad thing to take a QB in the draft. This is especially considering that Cooper Rush is a FA. So, Tune might provide a change of tune at QB for us. If nothing else, he'd be a serviceable backup option that can later be traded for picks.

6 (212) WR Jake Bobo UCLA
6'5" 215 lbs

https://youtu.be/Ss0TEd4n7h4

Tall WR, and we need more WR help. I think he'd provide at least some interesting fodder during TC and the preseason. His size surely will help.

7 (248) FB Hunter Luepke North Dakota State
https://gobison.com/sports/football/roster/hunter-luepke/17968

6'1" 238 lbs

https://youtu.be/Fy5hTiEnZCU

Mike McCarthy used a FB a lot in Green Bay with John Kuhn. Luepke seems like a player that Mike would like to use in a similar fashion. Solid blocker, excellent hands, and he can run the ball well. Old school-type FB to round out my 1.0.

What say you all for my first mock draft for the year?

As a UT alumni, you had me sold with the first pick:thumbup:

When one says they took a OL to "sure up" their RB investment, that's a red flag to me.

Invest in the OL. Skip throwing high picks especially in this draft where there could be a bunch of really good TB prospects in that 3rd to 5th round range.

EDIT: When I do the PFF mock, Robinson is often the highest rated player (or one of the highest) left on the board. There really ain't a lot of great options where we are picking.

To me, the act of attempting to sure up the RB investment with an oline pick isn't a bad thing. Especially considering that Tyler Smith can play either T or guard, and we have Steele. Plus, with Tyron missing as many games as he does, getting Bergeron would be a nice way to help address that issue. Furthermore, getting Bergeron means that Dak will have better protection when throwing. So, it serves several purposes.

Id agree with possibly going TB later, but he was the best player on the board with where I picked, as you've noted. So, I took the best player on the board in a position that is likely to become a need with Zeke's likely departure. So, that was why I went Robinson and Bergeron in rounds 1 and 2 before getting a NT to clog the middle on defence. Especially a NT that specialises in the run game.

Not necessarily my favorite guys (outside of Bijan),but love the direction of the draft. I’d be surprised if Mims is there in the 4th, might would flip him and Roy (I like Roy, but his lack of burst off the snap makes him feel like a just occasional rotational NT which are usually not valued high and can be had pretty late).

Haven’t watched Bergeron yet, will have to go through a couple of games.

I could see that, tbh, there's a NT from Coastal Carolina that I'd have taken in round 4 that I was debating on. I suppose my next no-trade mock will feature him and have Mims in round 3. I think we couldn't go wrong with Mims. Alternatively, there's a WR from LSU who should be there in round 3 that I was debating on. I'll probably feature him also in the next draft. We need WR, and he seems like a capable slot WR. So, to me, he'd be an excellent choice.

I know that this is a short, but I love what I saw in it. I love how physical he is, and his run blocking here was textbook.

The best player on the board will most often be a RB or OG.
- i.e. You're likely choosing from the 4th best pass rusher or the #1 RB or #1 OG.

But you also want to account for the possibility of Tyler getting injured.

For me, if Torrence is there, he's my pick.

I also like Jones because he looks like he can flex at LT or LG.

Yeah, that's one play. Foskey had 1.5 sacks and 2.5 TFL in that game. Bergeron struggled with Foskey much of that game. In reality, the entire Cuse OL got mauled by the ND front in that game.

Fair enough. Still, I'd like to get an olineman in round 2 if we go Robinson in round 1. I think it's time to prepare for life after Tyron, and a guard or tackle in that spot would be good. Or, a pass rusher is never a bad idea there alternatively.
