Roy Williams Responds To Landry

Getty Images After Dallas's 7-6 win over the visiting Commanders last Sunday, Washington safety LaRon Landry had an interesting take on the Cowboys' no. 1 receiver; namely, that he was playing scared. "Yeah. I know he was [scared]. Y'all can quote it, too," Landry said on the team's official blog. "Y'all can tell him right now, tell him I'm sayin' it. I can say it right now: yeah, he was scared, I think. I told him he was scared."

Williams responded on Tuesday, disputing Landry's claims, and seemingly taking pity on the hard-hitting safety, whose team is now 3-7.

"God bless the individual, the young man, we love him," Williams said. "He's coming off a tough loss to the Dallas Cowboys, so I guess that's what he had to say. I'm going to continue to play my game and move on, got a win under my belt and I'm smiling.

"When you've won two or three games that's what happens. It's just frustration with himself, with the team and the way things have been going. You envy others on winning ballclubs doing the things they're supposed to do. I'm just going to continue my job. God bless the young man, him and his family and his football team."

An appropriately, albeit sarcastically saccharine sentiment as we draw nearer to Thanksgiving Day; but what of the claims that Williams got alligator arms over the middle?

"I'm running across the middle, stretching out, trying my best to catch the football," Williams said. "If that's scared, let me know."

This is a classic "scoreboard" comeback, and very possibly the funniest of the sort since Patrick Roy responded to Jeremy Roenick's antagonism by saying, “I can't hear what Jeremy says because my ears are blocked with my 2 Stanley Cup rings.”

Zing.

Whether or not Landry's claims have any real merit, no one but Roy Williams can know for sure; but Williams has seemingly emerged the victor from this small war of words--that much is clear.

Garrett and Romo have gotta be licking their chops over what they've seen on film from Landry. Almost everytime he gets isolated down field he gives up a huge play. The guy cant cover a lick.

If I'm them, I'm coming up with formations that get our WR's, no matter who it is, on Landry somehow. Landry's so putrid in coverage that I think I could line up out there and maybe beat him deep a time or two.

Don't get cocky dbair.

There is no way you could get deep on him...twice...

That one play in Cover 2 that the Chargers ran (one guy up the sideline, one guy up the seam) would likely work wonders too.

Looked a little like Landry was playing scared and a bit afraid on that big whiff he made on Nicks last night.

Totally forgot about Landry's thoughts after the game.

If the Cowboys punch these guys in the mouth early, they will submit.

new game...new attitude, lets hope RW didnt forget and will be out to prove a point.

Landry went soft ever since Jacobs ran over him

Landry should be called Whoops because every time a WR runs right past him everyone says "Whoops there goes Landry again.."

...I see Williams beat Landry one on one deep I will hold my tongue.

He may have been beaten by other WRs, but I'm not convinced that Williams can beat guys deep in this league on a regular basis.

I don't think I have ever heard that he is a WR who is capable of getting separation on DBs consistently.

don't need to get separation to beat a CB or safety deep. all you have to do is catch the ball and score.

...is the visual cue the QB uses to release the ball your way. What you say is true to an extent, but nothing puts confidence in your QB like seeing you make your way open.

Alligator arms never wins. The Cowboys just drag Roy Williams worthelss *** along for the ride.
