Saints, WR Michael Thomas Agree To Restructured Deal

January 7th, 2023 at 11:33am CST by Ben Levine
Michael Thomas has reworked his contract, setting up a significant decision for the Saints heading into the 2023 league year. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the wide receiver and the Saints agreed to a restructured deal that provides the organization with some additional flexibility to move off the contract this upcoming offseason.
Specifically, Thomas reduced his 2023 base salary from $15.5MM to $1.165MM. In exchange, the wideout now has a $31.755MM 2024 roster bonus that’s due on the third day of the 2023 league year (March 17, 2023). For participating, the Saints gave Thomas a $900K signing bonus.

He’s battled injuries and his numbers have plummeted since he signed that big contract. He’s only been active for 10 games since 2020.

Guys made of glass but could be a nice low salary pickup. He’s made a lot in no
He’s got and ego the size of a small Eastern European country, he’s not going to sign for anything small enough to be reasonable!

Looks like the type of splash signing that Danny Boy would make.

The Cowboys have their Star in #88. Gallup will be back to normal next season, and that's a good WR. Imo, they need to fill out WR3-WR6, and the Cowboys have a lot of young WRs on PS/IR/53 who could fill these roles. Now add in the draft and FA there's no need to sign injury prone over-priced WRs... too much surplus.

Michael Thomas isn't an attractive option to me.

So, this means he's getting cut because $31M roster seems a bit much?

TY has shown he can still play.

No need to look at a guy made of glass who is no longer half the player he was when Drew Brees was throwing to him
