Hurricane Irene.

There doesn't appear to be anything to weaken Irene until she makes landfall probably around North Carolina. This could get nasty.

Our weather guy is reporting that this mornings tropical model shows coastal areas of VA are vulnerable to the worst of it, but inland areas, like where we are, should be ok.

I'm hoping that is the case.

Guess I need to hit up the North Face store a little early this year for some goretex. We always get punished here in Northern VA when those hurricanes make it up north.

I was at Langley AFB in Hampton Roads when Isabel hit in 2003. It was only Cat 1 when it hit land but it wasn't pretty.

Hurricanes have been nearly extinct recently. I feel bad for the hurricane hunters (aka idiots standing in the middle of a storm to generate ratings and spread fear) because they have been nearly unemployed/severely underemployed for about 5 years now. How about a federal bailout for the hurricane hunters?

No doubt. We were supposed to suffer some of the worst hurricane seasons ever after Katrina but they never really materialized. We had a few bad storms but nothing close to what the fear-mongers (aka evening news) were predicting.

I love bad weather. I don't like the fallout or injuries it causes but in general I like to watch it.

I have a lot of relatives living on the Outer Banks. Looks like they are right in the path....yet again.

turned off the outside world for a few days to concentrate on getting back to my writing. Looks like its going to be a fish spinner as the models have it drifting further and further to the east.
