Do they skip the position if a DE is there for them? They have Kneeland, who they were high on last year. Sam Williams is supposed to be healthy. Hopefully this makes them lean more towards DT!

I was really bummed last year when Sam Williams tore his knee up. I thought 2024 was a huge opportunity for him to dig out a larger chunk of the snaps.

He really was our most explosive player on defense not named Parsons. Even if he’s back this season, the knee probably sets him back for another year while he gets acclimated.

Yes…finding someone who can rush the passer opposite of Parsons is a big need.

Kneeland didn’t show much last year and Williams can’t be counted on.
Yes, just like Lamb, they need an alpha opposite him on the other side. Just so many needs, just don’t think they can fill all of them in 1 offseason

I’d consider Sam Williams a non-factor in my decisions.

The window of cheap production from his is nearly closed and he’s a free agent after this season.

They’re paying Parsons, not him.

Look for Williams’ replacement.

I'd almost bet Sam will steer them away from drafting a DE too high. He's a classic high-risk, high-ceiling Jerry pet, and Jerry won't want anything standing in his way.
I think you're correct. I doubt they go with an EDGE early in the draft. I do think it is a need since Williams is coming off an injury and Kneeland is only a 2nd year guy.

Maybe they re-sign Carl Lawson or another vet during FA. I said this before, but I wouldn't be opposed to kicking the tires on Chase Young. He fits the Cowboys M/O...high round pick, hasn't reached full potential but has pedigree that may payoff on a short-term deal. Pairing him with Parsons, where he does not need to be the number 1 pass rush option, may bring out the best in him.

Unless this week's Combine shoots another EDGE up the board, don't see them picking one in the premium rounds (1st-3rd).

Who are their DE? Williams, Kneeland, Parsons and Wheat? Anyone happy with that group? Williams is coming off a knee injury.

I would say the Cowboys need to address DE as well as DT. I think they may try to sign Golston but something tells me he is going to leave Dallas and could wind up in Washington. Maybe they re-sign DLaw but I am not sure he is dependable at this point in his career.

I think you consider him more as a depth piece then counting on as a starter.

I think they can go with Golston/Kneeland as base DE's and kick them inside in the nickel. Question is who is that other pass rusher opposite Parsons? There is no doubt there is a need for another alpha edge rusher, but they have bigger holes to fill first, like their run defense. If they cannot sure that up, it won't matter who you have rushing the passer if they are in constant run/pass situations.

THIS is why I'd strongly consider Mike Green at 12.........top pass rushers are hard to find outside of round one. Drafting a guy like Green gives you a top alpha opposite of Parsons for the next 5 years.....which Parsons's new contract would likely end.

Not wanting to address arguably the 3rd most important position in the sport because of the embarrassment of riches that is Sam Williams and Kneeland is flat out crazy talk. DE should be very high on the list of priorities
It's like you don't even remember Tyrus Wheat is on this roster.

The defensive end position is like the tackle position. If you somehow get a chance to draft an elite one you take them. If not just let us see what Kneeland and Sam can do.

Sam is all sizzle and no steak. Outside of Micah we pretty much c h struck out on DE selections.

Another thing I like about drafting Green is there's good chance he and Parsons together will elevate Mazi's game. This would put us within one player ( another DT ) of having a potential elite four-man front similar to the Eagles ( very little blitzing needed ). In other words, his impact could take this defense to another level.

DE is definitely a need and needs to be upgraded, but I doubt we draft one in the first 3 rounds. We also have glaring needs at DT, LB, RB and WR.

I suspect they will resign either DLaw or Gholston, sign a cheap DE in FA like someone from the Bears who Eberflus knows and maybe a draft a late round project. In other words, its a position that probably isnt getting an upgrade.
