I was away on the weekend for a firm partners' retreat. We decided for the first time to go international and went to San Francisco. Stayed near Union Square at the Hilton. Nice hotel, had a bunch of flight attendants from various airlines staying there, that was nice.

Did a winery tour in Sonoma, Muir Woods tour, Academy of Sciences private tour, Alcatraz and of course the waterfront.

I hadn't been to SF since 1993 and remembered this weekend why I love that city (cue the homophobic jokes).

Sun, hills, great stores, views, cable cars, hot women, it is great.

I had a nice confidence boost with two English flight attendants (yes they were female).

If you have been there, you know what I mean about the city, if you haven't been there, make sure you go.

There's a reason Tony Bennett wrote that he left his heart in San Francisco!

I lived in Alameda (across the bay) when I was younger. (NAS Alameda, Navy brat)

The wife and I went back in 2007 for a long weekend. It is IMO the best place to visit in California.

LA just plain sucks. San Diego and surrounding area is pretty good too if you know where you're going.

Going there for Oracle Openworld conference in a couple of weeks. First time I've been in a few years, really looking forward to it. Don't know how it is to live there, but it's a beautiful place to visit.

Do me a favor, punch out Larry Ellison while you're there.

Thanks.

We have just got back home after our first visit to California.

Spent a few days in San Francisco before heading down Highway 1 with stops at Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel & Pismo Beach before heading to LA for a couple of days.

Then travelled down to San Diego to watch they Cowboys game before heading back up to Yosemite (via Six Flags/Valencia) for a few days.

Then back to the coast for our last night before flying back out of San Fran.

Had a great time, and would recommend it to anyone who hasn't been.

Have to say we enjoyed San Francisco and particularly enjoyed cycling the Bridge & down into Sausalito before getting the ferry back.

Only thing I would have changed, I would have liked to have had longer at each stop.

Bunch of guys from the office did that cycle, I just stayed at waterfront and went to the huge fan gear store.

Bought my son and I matching SF Giants shirts and then got a Cowboys's 50 anniversary tshirt.

The SF Area is one of the nicest areas on the planet. If you could somehow banish the California government it would be really nice there.

Most of my expenses were paid by the firm but you are right, I probably blew 3-400 on souvenirs.

Wife demanded an expensive gift in return for not *****ing about the firm going to SF so I had to get her some earrings.

Bought Jr a couple of teeshirts, some for me too, some Ghirardelli chocolates for the secretaries and other lawyer in my dept and a souvenir for my secretary.

A great place to visit.

I live about 1 1/2 from San Fran and every time one my wife or my friends visit that is the place we take them. It is a very nice city but extremely expensive to live. Prop 13 has really screwed a lot of people in taxes and is one of the reason CA is in this mess.

I ended up going out with two English flight attendants I picked up in the hotel bar. One asked me a couple of hours later, since we would never see each other again, what question would I like to ask her.

Damn I think porn movies have started with that kind of question,,,

Hmm. I'm going with: "How'd you like a coupon for an All You Can Eat Shrimp Buffet."
