What Are Alternative Movie Posters? Created by artists outside of Hollywood and highly collectible, these hand-drawn beauties are often better – and more valuable – than the original classic movie posters. - AntiqueTrader.com

Is it the Kurt Russell version that one needs to watch ?

I think they have like three versions of the Thing.

My answer would be yes since James Carpenter's The Thing is the best of the three in my opinion.

EDIT: The YouTube clip I posted is just the original score, not scenes from the movie. So it is not necessary to watch the movie in order to judge the music that underscores it. :)

Yep.

The Thing from Another World is the original from the 50's. James Arness played the part of The Thing a few years before starring in his all-time classic television Gunsmoke series role as U.S. Marshall Matt Dillon.

James Carpenter's The Thing from the 80's squats within my all-time top three horror movie list. It is also one of two movies, the other being Escape from New York, where Kurt Russell permanently knocked his Disney career monkey off his back and re-defined himself as a serious Hollywood actor.

The Thing from the previous decade is a prequel of the 80's film. The living hell that ended (or did it..? ;) ) in Russell's movie started in the third and final movie.
