Even though I don't expect him back next year, I think Schultz deserves some credit for the vet savvy he showed against Tampa Bay.

I've been rewatching the game over the last few days and just got to the point where we converted a third-and-1 with a quick throw into the flat to Schultz. The ball hit him about at the first-down mark, but made sure he had it by backing up instead of trying to pivot and run forward, which would have cost him to lose yards before he could gain them. He ended up backing down the field for several yards, but making sure he had the first down was what was important.

There were other examples where his vet awareness was apparent. On one of the TD throws to him, he was initially wide open in the end zone, but when Dak had to scramble, Schultz worked his way into an open spot to make himself an easy target. Also, the TD throw to a wide-open Lamb was cool because Schultz knew it was a TD without even seeing the result of the play because he saw the defense bite on his route. Great game by a player who understands the game.

Schultz was a stud Monday. Those that were screaming they wanted him gone should hang their heads in shame.

Schultz has been a marvel at getting open for a couple years now. And no, not just any TE can do that.

It’s really cool to see a guy who was a 4th round pick in 2018 develop from a little used player to a star in 4 seasons. It’s a good reminder to not write off a young player before they’ve had a chance to develop.

There are some clear lost causes like Taco Charlton, but overall, I don't believe a team should give up on a draft pick until after at least three seasons. For a variety of reasons, some players just don't come into their own until after a few years in the league. The game slows down, the light comes on, whatever.
