What did you all think about yesterdays screen pass?At first I thought it was going to be a big gainer, then the bottom fell out. What do you think?

I think we are going to run it until it starts working. Parcells and Payton both like the play and really want to get it ironed out it seems. Can you imagine if they start actually making it a good play? JJ is going to hurt a defense.

I hate it because it doesnt work right now. It does look to be getting better a weeeee bit at a time tho. Just a wee bit.

when the play was developing I was thinkin ,NO WAY,a screen pass??then of course it fell apart.the O-line at least got out in front yesterday.

It hasnt worked yet but BP sure as hell seems committed to it. Gotta work one of these times, right?
Seriously, I think our o-lineman have to get used to getting out there in front of the screen and making there blocks. Looks like we will run the screen to the right side of the o-line most often which makes the best sense since Rivera has been running screens his whole career up in Green Bay and Pettiti looks nimble enough to get out there too, certainly more than Flozell will.
We know that JJ can do it, I just think the line needs more time to put there end together. Hopefully they put it together sooner rather than later in the season.

I die a little inside each time we throw a screen pass

I think we'll keep running it until it's successful, and I think it's a great idea to do so.

Imagine if this team is able to run a screen with JJ.....JJ out in the open field with blockers.....drool.

Big gainers.

That'd just make our offense that much harder to defend.

We just don't execute it well at all. The offensive line does not sell it. This is prolly why the play gets blown up more times than not. The linemen either release too quickly, don't get out to block after the catch, or both. And none of our linemen, with the possible exception of Rivera, blocks well in space.

I don't know how true this is, but I believe I read somewhere that we don't really practice the screen series too much anyway. Now that might come from reports when they were in Oxnard. I would hope we are working on it more these days, especially if we are going to run it in games.
